I'd say that was a mandate for change similar to 1994. It will be interesting to see if Bush is willing to work with congress and vice versa. If not, we'll have at least 2 interesting years. How much power do you think Joe Lieberman is going to have now? He's going to be wined and dined. He won't have to buy a meal until 2008, at least.

There's really no question about him working with Congress... he's basically had his legs taken out from under him. This election was a referendum on his performance as much as anything. With two years to go, he has to worry about his legacy and the state the country's in when January 2009 finally rolls around.

 

If he felt the 2004 election gave him a mandate, this one ripped it away from him. There will be some fun stuff coming up, including the coming out party for the veto pen.

 

 

As for Joe Lieberman, that was the best news all night. It will be indicative enough for the near-socialists in comfortably liberal districts and states to understand that the mood of the country was turning against those in power and not towards some sort of liberal awakening. The best thing that could happen because of Lieberman's win is for the far-left in both houses to reign themselves in and concentrate on getting a few of the party's key measures put through.

Sounds to me like you want campaign reform and spending limits, the problem is not the system (democracy) the problem is the money.

 

It's exactly the same as baseball, the game is fine, the money ruins it.

The two-party system and democracy are two different things.

 

I agree with game time. We might be better off with out the two big parties and all their dirty politics.
