What could have been ... Week 2

Featured Replies

Some potential matchups we would have seen under the old playoff system:

Class A

Bethlehem at Frankfort

Danville at Bardstown

Newport Catholic/Raceland at Beechwood

Covington Holy Cross at Lexington Christian

Harlan at Pikeville

Class 2A

Trigg County/Owensboro Catholic at Caldwell County

LaRue County at Corbin

Newport at Russell

Prestonsburg at Middlesboro

Leslie County at Belfry

Class 3A

Hopkinsville at Bowling Green

Warren East at Paducah Tilghman

Boyle County at Central

Valley at Southwestern

Franklin County/Highlands at Lexington Catholic

East Jessamine at Covington Catholic

Bell County at Johnson Central

Ashland at Rockcastle County

Class 4A

Christian County at Owensboro

Henderson County/Graves County at Warren Central

St. Xavier at John Hardin

Manual at Male

Ryle at Trinity

Woodford County/Lincoln County vs. Henry Clay

Scott County/Clark County at Lafayette

I'm sure I will be accused of beating a dead horse, but these matchups (many of them first-time encounters) would excite me than the slate of rematches we're seeing this week.

A St X- John Hardin rematch would have been fun to watch.

Bell @ Johnson Central and Highlands @ LexCath would have been fun.

;)

It would really seems like the playoffs if Corbin and Larue Co. were playing this week as they did for five consecutive years starting in 2000.

It would be great to have a chance to play them later in the playoffs this year though.;)

I don't think theres much difference.....In Region 1, 4a, I'd just as soon see WCentral/Graves and Owensboro/Henderson vs them being turned around...I know I'd much rather see a Male/St X than a ST X/J.Hardin...I like the Beechwood/NCC game better than any 1a matchup listed..I see your point, but, I think the way it is now will bring more excitement to next weeks matchups and gives us some pretty good matchups this week that we wouldn't otherwise see...

Why? If they were both the best teams, they would have met in round three last year. Plus we would get to see a rematch of one of last year's playoffs most thrilling finishes.

Nope...

I like the games we have this year, this week, better...especially in 2A.

Maybe, but we've already seen the matchups we're seeing this week, and that wasn't usually the case under the old system. I like seeing how teams in different districts stack up with each other in the playoffs.

Under the old system, Beechwood and Newport Catholic could easily have played next week, as could Male and St. Xavier with a potential meeting with Trinity further down the road.

What? We've already seen all of this week's matchups.

I don't disagree on the 1st point, but, to me, the StX/Male, Beechwood/NCC and CCath/Highlands are great matchups and your topic was "What matchups we Could have seen" in the old system...Hard to get much better than these this week..I just don't see alot of difference whether it be round 2 or round 3. It wasn't really all that uncommon for teams from the same district to play in this round anyway..

I would have liked to see a Highlands and Lex Cath game, but we still might see them hook up next week if Highlands beats CCH and if Lex. Cath beats Franklin Co.

Under the old format the Rock would only have to play Bell or JC this year could be both. Same with Cov Cath, last year only Highlands or Lex Cath. This year could be both. You can't convince me that these matchups are not going to be more exciting than the old format. No matter how many times you have seen Bell and Rock you will never get tired of it and the same with Cov Cath and Highlands. These are not the only examples just the first two that come to mind.

BTW westsider you are not beating a dead horse cause the buzzards at this horse a long time ago.;)

The key is that we've already seen these matchups. If Beechwood/NewCath and Male/St. Xavier work their way back to each other in the third round, so be it. But at least one of them would probably have to go through the other district champion to earn it.

Bell County and Johnson Central would have been a highly-anticipated matchup, and the winner (most likely) against Rockcastle would have been much the same.

Bottom line ... we've already seen JC/Ashland and Bell/Rockcastle this season. If one of those two sets of teams had worked their way back to a rematch next week, great. I would rather see the cross-district matchups this week to see how those teams fare with each other.

We get it. Are you going to beat us across the head with it for the entire playoffs???

No one said you have to read it ...
