Father / Son Undefeated Seasons

Featured Replies

Chuck Smith of Boyle County and his son, Brandon Smith of South Warren, each concluded this season with an undefeated 10-0 record. Has this ever been accomplished before by a father and son in the same season?

Question: Why is the dad the coach at Boyle County and the son playing @ south Warren?

Brandon Smith is the coach at South Warren. He did play QB for his dad at Boyle during their 5 state title winning streak.

Chuck Smith is head coach at Boyle County

Brandon Smith is the head coach at South Warren

This the validity of the question has there ever Ben a father/son where both has coached there teams to undefeated seasons in the same year?

Not surprised and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen again, two very good coaches.

That’s a pretty cool story.

Here is another question

Has a father and son IE Coaches Chuck and Brandon Smith ever taken their respective teams to the state finals in the same year?

Or Has a father and son both won state championships in their respective classes in the same year?

I ask these questions because it is a possible task for them both to make the finals and have a shot at winning them this year. I don’t won’t to get to far ahead but has it ever happened?

Maybe the Morris family in Mayfield???

Maybe the Morris family in Mayfield???

Were they coaching at the same time and different teams?

I know that Chuck Smith won multiple state championships at Boyle County. Brandon has 1 with South Warren in 2015. But they haven’t won in the same year.

Maybe the Morris family in Mayfield???

Jack and Joe Morris probably accomplished the same thing but it wouldn’t have been in the same season.

Joe was on Jack’s staff.

More importantly, to me if no one else; how are they doing it? And another question, How close were the Jaggers family to accomplishing it? Pretty good lineage there too.

Scratch, I personally fell that Brandon is emulating his father to a sense. He played for chuck and grew up in that culture of winning and knowing what it takes to win.

I know 5 years ago when Brandon was Mark Nelson’s assistant coach and defensive coordinator they talked with the seniors and set goals. He asked them if they were sure that’s what they wanted and told them how much work it would take to get there. While that team went 11-2 and lost to Tilghman by one point it was the turning point in the South program. They started the season with 4 consecutive shutouts then added with more in the season. They only allowed a total of 52 points.

So a strong smart defense is how he has done it. Yes they score a lot of points also but it’s all because they get after it on defense. They keep you deep in your own territory and take advantage of short fields when they get the ball.

In addition his strength and conditioning program is fantastic. He builds the program based on each players individual needs and concentrates on what they need to be successful at their particular position. IE linemen he works on strength then conditioning and speed. For his athletes IE backs and defensive backs he works on speed, conditioning and then strength.

So he doesn’t just put one program in for everyone he builds it for each ones individual needs.
