What IF Rutgers Runs the Table?

Featured Replies

I don't doubt Rutgers is a good team, but there are so many teams they've got to jump.

Would you have supported UL going if they had remained undefeated? If so, how do you justify them but not RU? They played the same teams, right?

No chance of them making the NC game. It was iffy for an undefeated UofL or WVU, not a chance for the Scarlet Knights.

Those saying that they deserve it just as much as UofL or WVU would have if they'd been undefeated: I agree. None of those 3 teams deserve a NC bid. None of them played anyone OOC (Louisville at least tried w/ Miami and KState).

Well if they win the Big East, which they will probably end up doing, they will get a BCS bowl bid but doubt a national championship apperance. At halftime they showed a visual and Rutgers was 13 in the BCS standings so i doubt a national championship spot. Opens the door for Florida though

UL absolutely controlled their own destiny. They win out, they're in the NC.

Firstly, they haven't played the same teams. Rutgers played an extremely weak noncon schedule. I'd take Miami and Kansas State over any of the teams on their noncon. Secondly, it's not that I don't think Rutgers is good, just that they're hurt from having to come so far from behind. Louisville was ranked third, already placed to be in the title game. Rutgers is 15th, and there a lot of teams ahead of them. I don't think the pollsters are going to vote them that high unless a lot of teams lose. It's possible that Rutgers may even still be ranked behind Louisville.

Ultimately, we're saying that because the pollsters got it wrong to start the season, RU would have too many teams to jump in order to get to #2 in the BCS. Right?

Exactly. Hey, I don't make the rules, I'm just basing my opinion on them. In a perfect world, we'd have a playoff and then we'd know.

We agree. What we're really saying, though, is that its not only important how you do THIS season, its how you did last season that would garner votes in the FIRST poll of the season. Doesn't quite make sense to me and my simple brain.

To be fair to preseason pollsters, I don't think anyone saw this one coming.

Fine. I don't blame them. Its the system that punishes a quality team simply because the pollsters didn't "see this one coming."

Rutgers actually have played some BCS conference schools outside of conference....They beat UNC and Illinois, and went to Navy and destroyed them. They definitely deserve the same consideration as UofL IMO.

UNC, Illinois, Ohio, Howard, USF, Navy, and Pitt.

That is why they won't be in the title game.

They will go the whole season and play 2 ranked teams.

Makes you want to root for them so that maybe again they would see the system needs changing. Of course, the better hope would've been UL running the table and getting left out. That'd have been even worse.

I think that Rutgers will get beat by West Virginia in Morgantown.
