Would love to learn how to shoot, but I'm cross dominant...right handed, but left eye dominant. Makes it hard to shoot a rifle, so I imagine it'd be the same with a bow.

As long as you close your left eye or wear an eye patch it shouldn’t be issue.

Went and shot last night and realized you have to sight all three of your pins. :lol2:

 

I guess the guy at the store only did the top pin, at about 20 yards. Last night, I was shooting at 30 yards and shooting low. Then at 10 yards, I was shooting high. All off the top pin. So I plan on dropping the bottom two pins and setting them at 30 and 40 yards. But, a question I have for the resident archers... If my top pin was set at 20 yards, does that mean I shouldn't shoot at 10, or do I just need to aim lower when I'm that close?

Your 20 yard pin should be fine at 10. It may not be dead center but should be very close. I’ve never had a 10 yard pin. Always started at 20.

That's what I was thinking. Not that I'll ever be doing much shooting at 10, but was just wondering. I was probably frustrated by the time I moved back to 10 and just not shooting consistently.

Unless I’m just working on form I almost never shoot at 10. 99% of my shots while hunting will not be that close and honestly modern bows are fast enough that at that distance the arrow isn’t in the air long enough to miss by much.

Yeah. My bow is at 65 pounds, and at 10 yards it's pretty instantly on the target.

Mine are set at 20, 30, 40. If i have to shoot out past that I probably won’t even try. But you could always get a 5 or 7 pin sight. Or a single pin that you adjust before the shot. I like my 3 pin though.

I like the three pin also, now that I know how I'm supposed to use it. :lol2: Five or seven pins seems overwhelming. I'll probably set mine the same as yours at 20/30/40.

I don’t quite understand the 5 or 7 pin sights either. The single pin is really nice, but I don’t quite feel like spending the couple hundred for it.

I have a 5 pin but don’t have the 5th pin set. I only have 20 30 40 and 50. I don’t a place to practice consistently out to 60 so never messed with setting it

I can't ever imagine having the confidence to shoot at something over 40. :lol2:

As far as target shooting goes, with enough practice you’ll get there.

 

As far as letting one fly at a deer, I’m not there yet either.

Obviously you never want to take a shot at an animal your not comfortable with. That said practice practice practice. Practice as far out as you can, it will make closer shots seem easy. If you want to be able to take shots at deer out to 50 try to practice at 60, 70, or even longer.
