I just don’t think Russell can score enough to hang with Ashland.

Ashland 48

Russell 14

My prediction?...………….. Pain.

(in my best Clubber Lang voice)

Even though Ashland has several key players out with injuries, I still think the Tomcats win big in this one. I'm interested to know what @Little Ram has seen in Russell so far that makes him/her think the Red Devils come out on top in this game.

Tcats roll. I think I love pounding on Russell more than anyone...

Ashland 42

Russell 7

The feeling is mutual as far as Russell pounding local rivals cobb18mkg14. It's Ashland 1st Raceland 2nd and Greenup County 3rd for me in all sports.

I believe people aren’t giving Greenup County enough credit. GC is a good football team, and we will all figure out this week just how good they really are. In the Ironton game, Russell absolutely dominated that game, and ultimately beat themselves. Not to mention, every one thinks Ashland is going to roll in this game, and they should, but there could be a sense of “let’s work on next week” at Ashland. I’m thinking it’s going to be a good game between these two teams. 44, the big TE/DE and 6, WR, are both out for Ashland, which hurts. Also, their best defensive lineman hasn’t had game snaps yet, which can also hurt. I think this will be a closer game than what people think @LRCW. Ashland may very well win big, but I just have a “hunch” it’ll be closer to a 14 point game.

Thanks for your input. I wouldn't exactly say Russell dominated Ironton. I thought both teams were very inept on offense, but I do agree that Russell probably should have won the ballgame. Losing Brandt is definitely a huge loss for the Tomcats, but they showed Friday night that their offense is still pretty explosive without him. I'm not sure if Junior Jones will be back for this game. I'll be very surprised if he is.

I don’t think Ironton is very good offensively. They scored one touchdown offensively and that came under two minutes in the fourth when Russell had no timeouts and looked to be trying to strip the ball. Ironton moved the ball, but couldn’t get into the red zone very often.

Russell’s offense almost moved the ball willingly, but hurt themselves with 2 fumbles (one under four minutes in the fourth quarter, inside the 35, down 9-7) and a blocked punt for a TD. Russell’s offensive and defensive line dominated that game, and there’s no doubt about that. However, Russell did give up a sack, and had a few hurries on the QB that needs to be resolved. And onto the blocked punt, I have heard that issue will be resolved, if it hasn’t been already. Coach Maynard doesn’t start the season 0-2 very often, and I don’t think he will let his team and staff start 0-3. I think there’s an edge this week. There should be anyways.

Who is this "best defensive lineman" who hasnt had game snaps yet? if your thinking about Junior Jones, he played week 1.

Jones did play week 1, against a struggling, run-it-down-your-throat Harlan County. I watched most of the game and he did not play as much as the other starters. He played well and physical, but I did not know how good he really is because Harlan County's line is struggling. Good luck to him in recovering from his injury, and I hope he can get back soon. He's a heck of a defensive lineman.

If Russell plays mistake free football, it wouldn't surprise me to see a very competitive game from start to finish. The Red Devils will fight like mad to avoid another 0-3 start. And Ashland's injury situation may, or may not factor heavily into the outcome. From a spectators point of view, Ashland's domination of this series over the past ten years has taken some of the heat out of this rivalry. But these two teams always get up for one another.

A win would obviously be huge for this team, but I just want to see Russell compete and be more consistent this week.

If Russell plays with the same energy and competitiveness as they did against Ironton, and without the turnovers, this could be a great game. We will see.
