NCC/Holy Cross Predictions

Featured Replies

So you're saying they're "better now" based off of games against Ludlow, Dayton, Bellevue, and the Polar Bears? You may ultimately be right but there's no way you can base it on how they ended the season.

ANd if i'm correct didnt Holy Cross play the same teams. And now that the season over and after playing Holy cross and NCC, NCC impressed me more Than HC. Plus NCC has been waiting for this game since they last played.

I'll need more evidence.

I think what he is trying to say is that the 'Breds were finally able to work out the kinks that sometimes need to be worked out against inferior competition. They were able to make their passing game more respectable and they have gotten some bodies healthy. They are better now than they were three weeks ago, like most good teams are. Holy Cross may very well be, as well. I just don't see NewCath turning the ball over 6 times and having an 86 yard td run called back. All that and Holy Cross still only beat them by three.

NCC has been there... when the pressure is on... they come through. Arent they the defending Class A champs? Somebody help me out here but what has Holy Cross accomplished outside of a fantastic season. That is not to put down the Indians because they have a great ballclub and in an earlier thread... I believe I was a blowhard saying they may be a sleeper to go downstate. However, after monitoring some of the final games I am convinced that NCC will right the ship and start playing Breds football. Vicars will get loose and the defense will step up.

Key points:

1. NCC could control the amount of turnovers (well at least the 4 INTs) by not throwing the ball as much.

2. It would be foolish to think that Holy Cross has not improved since the first meeting also.

3. NCC should (note should) have realized by now that they are a much more effective team running the ball from under center with a fullback than from the shotgun 4 wide formation. Especially if they ever receive the ball starting in 4 down territory.

4. Field conditions should be okay as Holmes has one of the best grass fields this time of year and no rain is expected after Tuesday. Home field technically belongs to Holy Cross but NCC did play on this field against Paris, Bellevue, and Lex Christian last year.

5. Injuries prior or during the game would be a huge factor for either team. Neither IMO could suffer an injury like Beechwood did last week and win.

6. Field position could dictate the type of offense run by both teams. Edge there on kickoffs to HC. Both have average punting games at best.

7. Both teams handled the bottom teams in the district about the same. Both teams had some decent period of play against Beechwood, and both had a period where Beechwood dominated.

2. It would be foolish to think that Holy Cross has not improved since the first meeting also.

Key point. All of the NCC supporters have stated that NCC has improved since their loss to HC. So has HC.

I don't necessarily buy the logic that since NCC lost the first time, they will win the 2nd time.

Does anyone have the rushing stats from NCC the first time they played?

Does anyone have the rushing stats from NCC the first time they played?

I don't remember the exact numbers for either team and the article below doesn't mention it.

NCC really did not move the ball all that well against Bellevue or Ludlow out of the shotgun formation. Running from under center they were basically unstoppable. Granted those defenses aren't the best but they were good enough to hold NCC out of the shotgun.

Basically NCC got a short field the first time they got the ball and scored in a couple of plays while running from under center. After that it was Shotgun the rest of way. Lots of passing and not much yardage from the running game.

Two of the INTs were in the endzone. One bounced off an NCC receiver and the other was just a bad throw to no one other than the Holy Cross defenders. The fumble inside the five yard line was uncontested. (See photo).

I can't remember if Holy Cross turned it over other than an INT just before halftime I believe, that was almost returned and would have been huge.

I do believe NCC was held to under 10yds rushing in the first half and didn't get any better in the second. The screen pass is where NCC got most of their yds.

If the polls are to be believed, then HC is the better team and will win.

This sounds like your posts last year, using your stats and polls to justify how Lca was going to stomp Ncc. We saw how that turned out last year, you disappeared for about two weeks after that game. No apologies or good game posts.

Exactly. Good points. I like it though, I hope that he doubts NewCath again like he did last year, maybe he'll bring us the same Karma.

Everyone is talking about how the only reason Newcath lost is because of the turnovers, and that they won't do it this time because they will just run. If you were at the game you saw that Newcath tried very hard to run the whole first half. Their line just wasnt able to get any push up front against HC's and Baker and Scruggs were in the backfield all day pounding Vicars(which by the way is no knock on him because he's one of the best around). NCC was forced to throw the ball a lot in the second half because they were unable to dominate on the ground like they needed to in order to come back. The fact of the matter is Harris is a very athletic talented kid with a strong arm who will make big plays in the passing game, but at the same time he's prone to ill advised passes and INT's! Just because NCC was able to run effectively the past couple of weeks and didn't have to pass does not mean they will not turn the ball over against HC again. Having said that I'm not saying by any means that HC will win this game but I just don't see it going much different than the first one did, which in my opinion could have gone either way.

Good post. I see your p-o-v. I believe that the last three weeks have allowed NewCath to work out some kinks. I know nothing about HC, so they may be light years ahead of where they were when the two teams last played. I do know that, in terms of execution, NewCath is light years ahead of where they were.

There's no doubt that Newcath might have worked out some kinks, but I don't think the last time they played that there were many huge mistakes other than the Int's, and IMO thats who NCC is as a team if you force them to throw. The difference could be that they don't let HC score and get ahead and in that scenario they are able to continue to force the issue of their running game and never have to resort to a pass first offensive attack.

I agree with the post on Harris being an athletic, strong armed QB. I also think he will be the deciding factor in this game. From my observance he seems to be gaining confidence each and every game. As for the turnovers, well, they're a part of the game and will happen, but I see NCC keeping them to a minimum and winning by a comfortable margin.
