Russell 13 Rowan County 6 (Scrimmage)

The final game of the grid was a colossal defensive battle that unofficially totaled 167 yards of offense.

There were 20 passes thrown, with 3 being completed and 1 picked off, that went for a score.

In all unofficially there were 81 plays ran, with one team running 52 of them.

Unofficially one team netted minus 5 yards in the first half, while the other had 59.

The first quarter would see a 15 yard run from,Cole Wallace of the Vikings as the biggest offensive play. That play took place with 3:45 left in the quarter. With 2:56 left Wallace was hit and dropped by a host of Red Devils, with #56 Eligh Abdon leading the way.

The final big defensive play came at the 2:26 mark of the quarter, when Zeke Ferguson of the Vikings fumbled the ball and making the recovery for the Red Devils was Jackson Doak.

The 2nd quarter was also a scoreless one, again with the defense leading the way.

At the 10:20 mark Wallace was held to no gain, when Reed Galloway and Landon Duvall got to him.

The clock read 6:54 when Wallace got a little revenge by picking up 13 yards, on a nice run.

With 6:29 left Wallace plowed his way to a 9 yard gain. The kid will be a force this season and put up big numbers, if he can get some help and a big upswing this season from his line. That was pretty much the highlights offensively in the quarter.

The defense for Rowan County came up big twice, in the last 42.7 seconds of the half. The first came on a sack by 52 Trevor Utterback on Grant Wilburn. Wilburn was sacked again to end the half by 65 Matthew Barbeau.

The final frame would see three scores. Two from the offense, with the other coming on a late pick six.

Wallace would pick up 19 yards on 3 carries, taking the ball to the one, with 6:05 left. It looked like QB Tabor Wright plowed in for the score.Nathan Besant missed the point after, leaving this a 6-0 Rowan County lead. The drive totaled 11 plays and 69 yards.

The scoreboard read 1:50 left, with Rowan County on their own 30 yard line, facing a fourth and 1. The coaching staff elected to go for it and that gamble, was a big defeat when 58 Anthony Blevins stuffed the runner for a short loss.

On the very next play, six seconds later Reed Galloway was wide opened and hauled in a 31 yard touchdown pass. The point after from Gabe Floyd gave the home team, a 7-6 lead. The tiny crowd from Rowan County set in stone silence wondering what just happened.

The Vikings still had 1:44 left to try and get the tying score, but with :12 second left Galloway again came up huge, when he did his best Rob Kelly(Former Ohio State star) picking off the pass and taking it all the way for a 60 yard (or so) pick six. The point after from #31 Brandon Argabrite made the final score 13-6 Russell.

I used the rosters from the K.H.S.A.A. web page.

What did you think of your first trip to Henry R. Evans Stadium, @newarkcatholicfan? It's a nice venue to take in a game, especially from the upper deck section.

I enjoyed it a lot. Great seats from up top.

DMC,Do they still charge a reserved seating ticket cost to sit in the upper deck on Friday nights? I always just pay for general admission.

Yes, they do. It's 7$ for reserved seating. They charged 6$ for all seating last night. I'm assuming that's the ticket price at all Grid venues.

My first two years, I never seen anyone collecting money.

Last year five and this year 6.

What will the price be for general admission this year on Friday nights?

Prices go up, crowds go down. Especially if you're only there for one game or the other.

I did not want to be the first to say this.

It's a scrimmage, so why charge like it is a regualr season game?

I'd be curious to know how the EKC and the host schools split the gate? It doesn't sound like the Grid drew much this year.

The host school gets concessions. Gate money (minus cost of officials) goes to the EKC.

Maybe I should have said they make no profit.

(That's the way I have been told it plays out)

Either way it has got to be little to nothing

Wish I had known you were there @newarkcatholicfan. I was in the press box running the clock for the game.
