Friday night looks to be quite soggy for most of the games. Especially for parts of Kentucky west of I-75. The Weather Prediction Center how has parts of Kentucky in a Slight Risk Area for excessive rainfall. This means that those in that area have a 10-20% chance of rainfall totals exceeding flash flood guidance.

 

 

As everyone can see this area matches with what I posted earlier that could receive 3+ inches of rain. No real change to the forecast as of this evening. I'll update in the morning.

Quick update for Friday night. Parts of Kentucky are now in a category 1 Marginal Risk Area for strong to severe storms on Friday. This area is south and east of a line from just north of Bowling Green northeastward to just north of Ashland. Those in this area could see scattered strong to severe storms Friday afternoon into the evening hours. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this area expanded by tomorrow.

 

 

The latest NAM 3km simulated radar shows why I wouldn't be surprised to see this area expanded. We should see one line of strong to severe thunderstorms start in southern Indiana around 5 pm EDT and move southeastward into Kentucky around 7-8pm EDT. The second line of thunderstorms should could form and move across portions of western Kentucky around the 9-11 pm EDT time period. Locally damaging winds and hail will be possible with the stronger storms. I'm as much as possible monitoring this situation and will update later today.

Isolated strong to severe storms will be possible later today. Morning rains will impact where the stronger storms develop/re-intensify later this afternoon. The current estimate is that the morning showers and thunderstorms may persist and re-strengthen across Kentucky where a moist and unstable airmass is in place. The main concern with any storm that develops will be lightning and heavy downpours. High to damaging winds will be possible. If you will be out tonight at any games please have some way of getting warnings especially if lightning is in your vicinity.

That was the third week of the season (Labor Day Weekend). Numerous games were moved up from Friday to Thursday night.

Not last years opening week, but it did happen both 2 years ago, and 4 years ago opening week.
