Rookie Police Officer Charged In Shooting of Unarmed Man

Featured Replies

It happened in Pennsylvania. The officer responded to a call about a man acting erratically and climbing on cars. He encountered 44 year old Joseph Santos. Santos climbed on Officer Jonathan Roselle's hood and banged on the windshield. He then climbed down and started to walk away. Roselle, who had been ordering Santos to get away from the vehicle then ordered Santos to the ground. At that point Santos continued to walktowards the Officer and told Roselle "don't do it." When he continued to move towards the officer Roselle shot him 5 times, killing him. Roselle, an army veteran who served in Afghanistan, later said he "bleeped up" and "didn't know what to do."

Sad situation for all involved. Sounds like a training issue as Roselle had a baton, pepper spray and taser.

Tough one, guy was clearly not right trying to attack the cop while he was still in the cruiser.

At some point people have to learn to do what they are told by authority. Its not a hard concept.

From the incomplete video it doesn’t look good.

They do have body-cam video but are not releasing it yet pending the trial.

I’m sensitive to the fact the guy was continuing to come towards the officer. I feel for any vet suffering mental illness. Could a taser have been deployed ? Maybe.

Feel bad for both.

As we have learned locally recently using a taser gets you in just as much hot water.

Which is an entirely different conversation than a grown man, but most people know that.

I started a thread to discuss that to keep this one on topic.
