Top 10 CFP contenders

Featured Replies

Why? They had them both at home last year. That's just life in the SEC.

Oh boy here we go. You shouldn’t have to play the only 2 other good teams in your conference 2 out of 3 weeks. Makes for fun TV for the viewers, but that sucks for those schools.

Wisconsin and Penn State lost a lot. Auburn just has a ridiculously hard schedule that includes vs. Washington, @ Mississippi State, @Georgia, and @Alabama. And I’m not sure a P12 team makes the CFP. I honestly think Alabama and Clemson are definitely the top two because everyone else lost a lot more and Ohio State and Georgia are the closest to them. So everyone really thinks Wisconsin, Penn State, and Washington can challenge Alabama and Clemson? I know upsets happen and there will likely be some upsets this year but on paper I don’t see it.
They have their experienced QBs back. That’s enough to make up for their losses at other positions.
You lost me at Washington!

I think Jake Browning is going to have a bounce back year and the rest of the PAC 12 is a huge question mark. As it stands right now I think they have a pretty clear path to the playoff.

Why all the love for Clemson though? The defense will be nasty but their hopes are riding on a true freshman qb.....I like PSU and UGA more than Clemson

I mean they made it the playoff last year with mediocre QB play. As long as Trevor Lawrence can give them at least what they got last year I don’t think they’ll have issues with anyone in the ACC.

Trevor Lawrence is really good and isn’t Kelly Bryant back? I’m not sure but I was thinking he was a sophomore last year. Also I think Washington will be the best team in the P12 but that’s a weak conference this year I think and they have to beat Auburn in Atlanta to start the season. PSU does return their QB and Wisconsin returns almost their entire offense but they both lost a lot on the defensive side, I’m thinking they’re both probably top 10 teams but not legitimate contenders to win a national championship. I’ll have to see it to believe it

Will Notre Dame be a contender? Who do they return?

Bryant is back also.

Maybe but contend with Bama and Clemson?

I use the word contend very loosely. The way I look at it, the contenders are the teams with the best chance to reach the playoff. I think Penn State, Auburn, Wiscy, and maybe a handful of other teams are probably better, but I think Washington is going to be there in the end and they’re not. Once they get there anything can happen. Get back to me after the UW/ Auburn game and I’ll have a clearer picture. I wouldn’t be shocked to see UW pull that game out.

If Washington beats Auburn then I think they have a really good chance to make the playoff. The Pac12 is pretty weak this year so Washington may be undefeated with a big time OOC win. The committee would have to put them in in that situation. In addition I think the winner of the B10, SEC, and ACC get in. If Auburn beats Washington then I don’t think the P12 gets in and a second team from either the B10 or SEC get in.

Washington has a 1 game season pretty much. If they beat Auburn they can afford to lose a game in conference. The Big 12 will have some say in all of this. Oklahoma may not take as huge of a step back as some think, TCU has a HUGE out of conference game (that I’ll be attending), and weren’t you the one promoting Texas the other day?

TCU and Oklahoma lost quite a bit from last season, I just don’t see any B12 team being in the CFP. And yes I said I think Texas will be good this year and one of the best teams in the B12 and I said they’ll be a really good team next year. They won’t be a CFP contender this year

And what TCU game are you attending? I haven’t even looked at their schedule.

Because Dabo. The guy is a genius. And with a guy like Venables, who’s arguably the best D Coordinator in college football, calling your defense, you’re never out of a game.
