General Question About High School Sports

Featured Replies

I am having trouble finding this on the KHSAA site, so I'll ask here.

Very simple: are 6th graders allowed to participate in KHSAA sports (even the JV team)?

Thanks in advance!

Depends on the sport. I think it’s a no for soccer and football.

Soccer is what I'm wanting to know. My son is good enough and strong enough to play up, but if that's the rule, then I guess that's the rule.

Just exploring his options at the moment.

It's a no for all sports. Must be entering 7th grade to compete in any KHSAA sport.

That answers that. Thanks :thumb:

If he's good enough, I'd see about getting him into some practices, or at least training with some high school kids on the side, if they won't let him practice/scrimmage with them.

I am actually asking about that today. I’m hoping he can at least workout with the team

Not only that, but in soccer and football, 7&8th graders cannot participate at the varsity level at all. Strictly limited to freshman and jv.

They cannot be on the field with a junior or senior. If a team uses juniors on the JV team, then a middle school kid cannot participate.

Correct.
