imo they need to play like the man with a target on their back, but keeping in mind that Pikeville was a holding call away from winning the semifinal game. from what i am being told though, the boys r working hard and realized what it takes to get to the carpet. thats working ur tail off in the offseason and taking advantage of each and ever opportunity placed in front if you.

the offense was one dimensional and predictable. no threat to throw the ball and we ran the offense the same way we did all season long. the difference was, Beechwood had the ability to move the football when they had it. taking up big chunks of time and finishing drives. same thing happened against Somerset and Portsmouth West. cant be one dimensional and expect to win a title. unless you are belfry.

One thing i keep playing over in my head is that last year, very few people thought we could get out of the second round of the playoffs and even fewer people, myself included, expected us to win a regional championship. If you look back over the history of Raceland football, you will see a handful of teams that many fully expected to not inly accomplish those things, but surpass them by not only making it to the carpet, but winning there. It takes a little luck and a bounce of the ball here and there to get out of the east, as there are usually 3-5 teams that are always knipping at each others heels. Last years "dark horse" and state runner up, took advantage of each opportunity. That, imo, sets the bar even hire for this years squad, who is arguably going to be better, atleast on the offensive side of the ball. But, from a regular season standpoint, last years squad was simply a solid run game, with some atheletes, but no consistent passing game, but played great fundamental defense that had us right there to win the games we lost. That must continue. With that and a more balanced offense, I think the sky is the limit for the 2018 Rams. Pikeville is goina be tough for the next couple years, but I think we will be right therr with them. As will Hazard and Paintsville. Wont be an easy task as usual. But I see no reason why we cant be back in Lexington on Nov 30.

 

I agree 100 %, include me in that group that didn't expect even a Region title last season. Through the years, I can name around 3, 4 teams that I thought were 1A state championship contenders that imo the 2017 team wasn't close to as good. That's the way it goes, it's all about individual / team matchups and who's the hot, more heathy team going into post season. Raceland was on a roll and playing their best football in the latter part of the season last year.

 

This team has to know that not one big win last season will get them a win in this one. Should the team go into this season with the same work ethic, discipline and pride that they finished 2017 with then I like our chances. Paintsville and especially Pikeville imo will be the main stumbling blocks in this season's run.

Drove by the high school yesterday. It's all starting to come together over there - the new field, the track, the new bleachers. Everything's looking good so far. It's a shame the Rams can't open the season at home to christen it all on the first Friday night of the season.

I believe there will be some of us that will always miss it. Too many years, too many games, wins, district / region titles and even some of the tough losses to forget. I remember at times when the field was worn bad, mud holes and the like. Most everyone was saying what a mess it was …. We knew it and just said "yep, it's a mess, but it's our mess .

The new and much improved Ram Stadium will be a long, long overdue and a welcome sight.

I was wondering if they could take / save that one section of top rail of the fence that had a big " bow, curve" in it from the legendary crew, including myself would be and give our Rams, let' just say "encouragement" :lol2:. A sign should be placed somewhere on the Rams home sideline that reads "you've got to want it gentlemen". That would be in memory of long time fan and former star player Mike Hewlett, who was there so many years on Friday nights.

Sorry that this is too late but we just couldn't do it this year. Our resurfaced JFL field wasn't ready and the grass is still too tender on the field to take July stress. Hopefully, we will be back at it next year.

JFL field has the lights up, Bermuda seeded and irrigation in place. Raceland should have the nicest JFL facility around once the grass matures.

Season tickets are on sale for 200 chairbacks. Ticket package will include a reserved parking place. Look for more lucrative packages next season.

You would be shocked at the different look from the field. Standing on the field, it has a more "open" feel. Just moving the bus garage and making the parking lot bigger and fixing the track makes the field seem larger. Mark it down, the field is still a hallowed spot and revered by the current Rams.
