October 27, 200619 yr Seriously, though, I thought Morris' conditioning being improved was last year's story line. No, last year's story line was that Tubby was going to play a faster tempo. That's the story every year.
October 27, 200619 yr I believe Morris will be The Man this year...He improved tremendously last year from the year before, even though it was just 1/2 a year and he never was in tip top shape. I see 16-18 pts a game, 7-9 rebounds.. Bradley will be a more valuable point guard than Rondo was. He's definately a better scorer and shooter and as good a penetrater. They'll miss Rondo on the defensive end more than anything, but Bradleys no slouch there either. Look for 12-13 pts p/g from him and a couple of steals and 4-5 assists... Perry gained alot of confidence in the NCAAs last year and will be the glue that keeps things together. He won't be a big #s guy, but will have his days. I see 10-11 per game, 6-7 rebounds... Crawford will have his coming out party this year. He has NBA aspirations and knows it's his time to stake his claim. I look for him to be very similar to what Bogans was for UK a few yrs back. 14-15 pts and getting back to his natural 2 guard position.. Stevenson will get alot of playing time at the 4, but, I wouldn't expect alot this year. Look for Thomas to step up and get the significant minutes. He's another Sr who's been in the fold for awhile and the combo of the 2will contribute 12-13 a game and 6-7 rebounds... Meeks, Jasper, Porter will see enough minutes to contribute and spell the starters with not alot of dropoff in the perimeter... Woo and Carter will add depth to the frontline and will need to play well for the Cats to make a strong NCAA run as depth here seems to be the Cats only notable weakness...

He really impressed me in the tournament to end the year last year, and I really think he will have a big year for us, especially since he probably will be playing alot of the time at the 3 where he is more natural at, instead of the 4 where he played last year....

When you add it up you are expecting 64-70 points a game from the starters and Morris, Perry, and Stevenson to average more rebounds that last years leading rebounder. Just as a point of reference please consider the following. UK's team scoring averages: 02-03 77.3 03-04 73.9 04-05 73.6 05-06 70.8 Either you expect scoring to go through the roof or you don't expect much from UK's bench. The highest single season rebound average during that span was 8.1 by Chuck Hayes in 03-04. I admire your optimism and I know we are actually in condition this year but I don't think your projections are close to being realistic. Did you say Bradley is as good a penetrator as Rondo?
October 27, 200619 yr Yes...I think Rondo and Bradley are both very quick and good penetrators.. You'll notice I didn't say Bradley was a better assist man, just as good a penetrator and I think with him better knowing his role, he'll dish the ball more and is certainly more capable of putting the ball in the basket. Rondo got alot of his points after steals and on fast breaks, but, seldom scored off offensive sets. Thats where Bradley one ups him imo...To your other point, I think these #s are very realistic..the points you mention are from 6 players, not 5, so, some of these will come from the bench and no, I don't expect alot of points from the others coming off the bench, but, each of the subs I mentioned will have some games they score 8-10 points, but, I would expect the average in the 15 range, therefore, team average would be in the 79 range total which i think is pretty close...

I know I honestly think his projections are pretty close, because I know I dont expect to much from the bench this year. I know as I said before I hope we just stick with around a 7 or 8 man rotation, because if others besides me have noticed it seems that with Tubbys teams we do better when we stick with a much more of a set lineup. Its when we have to much depth it seems like we struggle and have chemistry problems. With Tubby's offense I believe not subbing as much helps them do better with that offense because they get more into the flow of the game, and that is why the 02-03 team was so successful because we really didn't play to many guys. As for Bradley I say he is just about as good as a penetrator as Rondo, but not as good as finishing once he gets there as Rondo. I really expect Bradely to have a very good year for us and surprise alot of people, and we will need him to, if we want to have a good year...

If you take the highest number of the averages he gave everyone they add up to just 70, and then if you take the smallest number off all the averages he gave them then it adds up to 64. So if you take the middle number between the 2 it would be 67. I know you probably would have to take a few more number to that for the guys on the bench who would play that he didn't mention, but they probably wouldn't have that big of a number for points a game. So I see around maybe 75 or so points a game from his projections, and I dont see that as being that far off...

I think this is a possibility. It's also the optimistic outlook. Now for the pessimistic... Morris has been ready to "emerge" and be the man since he came to UK. And we're still waiting. He has shown flashes, but more often he looks uninspired, or he's sitting on the bench in foul trouble. Bobby Perry was a punchline until he closed last season with 2 or 3 good games. Again, should people expect to see the Bobby Perry from the last month of the season, or the one from the previous 2 and 3 quarter seasons? Bradley and Crawford are a lot like Morris. They've shown some flashes, but more often have looked out of sorts. Sheray Thomas....I don't think anyone is really expecting much out of him anyway. The bench and incoming freshmen, which are almost one and the same, are an unknown. I personally share in some of your optimism, but I also like to keep it tempered. So, while I think you make some good points and you could end up being correct, be aware that the people who are skeptical have a lot of reasons to be that way.

Perry 8-10 ppg 5 boards Sheray/Stevenson/Woo/Carter 8-10 ppg 4-5 boards combined Meeks/Jasper 10 pts 4-5 boards 4 apg(Jasper) totals- 70 ppg, probably 25-30 boards I'd say that is about what a Tubby team will do. Chance for more boards, but maybe not points.
