Where does Frankfort go now in the 1a polls?

Featured Replies

I would say ahead of Danville at least 2 spots, wherever Danville falls to...maybe like this?

Bardstown

Mayfield

Frankfort

Danville

Beechwood

There were other teams besides Beechwood and Danville that were ahead of Frankfort...Bardstown, Mayfield, N.Catholic...Granted, they beat the reigning #1, but, all these other teams won also..I believe they deserve to be ranked above Danville and maybe even Mayfield and NCC, but, I'm not so sure they deserve to leapfrog Beechwood and Bardstown just yet...
My earlier post said that Frankfort should jump to #2, but my follow-up was not as clear. I would not jump them over Bardstown. However, Frankfort has the same record as Beechwood and they now have something that Beechwood lacks - a convincing win over the team that the BGP panel believed was the best 1A team in the state only a week ago. Mayfield has been struggling recently and NCC has a losing record. There should be no question that Frankfort deserves a higher rank than those two teams.
That wasn't a good loss, for sure, but, that was at the 1st of the season..Look at how Caldwell Co started out and I don't hear too many people questioning them now...Adair isn't good but at least they are a 3a team and for the most part, a 3a team should beat a 1a team...
Metcalfe's loss to Adair isn't comparable to Caldwell-Mayfield. For one thing, it was much more recent than the season opener, not to mention that Adair is simply not a good team.

Not to mention that Caldwell has since beaten two teams ranked in the top-10 at the time, Trigg and Fort Campbell. Metcalfe barely squeaked by Crittenden County.

After playing poorly the last two weeks, there is no way that Mayfield should be moving up in the rankings. If anything, they should be moving down ...

I can see Frankfort at #3 or #4, but no higher. I would pick both Beechwood and Bardstown to beat them.

Frankfort has lost to in-county rival, 3A Franklin County (7-2), which has been ranked among the state's top 10 3A teams much of the season. Frankfort's other loss was also to a 3A team, Mason County (7-2), which has been solid defensively all year, by a 14-12 score. (Lafayette scored 21 against Mason, the most of any opponent this season.)

Now Frankfort has beaten Danville in convincing fashion. Beechwood has no recent wins of similar quality. There is no way that Frankfort should not leap frog Beechwood, IMO. Frankfort may not win another game this season, but the proved that they were better than the BGP #1 team on the field Friday night, and its record is too good to think that the game was a fluke.

Frankfort deserves to be ranked above Danville and Beechwood because they earned the position on the field.

Everyone has an opinion and that is great. If I remember correctly, NCC is and will be the defending State Champions until they are knocked off. BHS did beat NCC as well as did Cov HC. You say BHS has not beaten anyone recently but as I stated did beat NCC. I think it is fair to compare BHS/NCC w/Danville/Frankfort w/the edge going to the NKY two only on past State Championships won.

To put Frankfort #1 for beating Danville, I don't think so. If Frankfort were #2/3 maybe but not from #6 in the BGP poll. They weren't even ranked in the top 10 in the Coaches AP poll but who says coaches know what they are talking about.

Bardstown is undefeated and they deserve the target on their back, #1 w/BHS #2, Mayfield #3, Frankfort/Cov HC #4 then Danville.

Someone said something about Mayfield being down, look who they beat out of district and their out of district loses, they will be in the hunt and deserve a top 5 rating. Don't count out NCC because of their record. Remember, during the playoffs everyone is 0-0 and they have been there before. They know what it is all about and I know BHS will not over-look them if they play again.

NCC has been "knocked off" five times this season. Last season's championship is irrelevant to this discussion.

I said that Beechwood does not have a recent win over an opponent of comparable quality to Danville, which is currently the BGP top-ranked 1A team. Based on the rankings, which is what is being discussed here, the Danville win trumps Beechwood's win over NCC.

I agree. I think that Frankfort should be #2 and have so stated. Being a defending state champion counts for nothing when you lose five regular season games the following season. NCC will have to prove that they are worthy of this year's title on the field, just the same as Frankfort will. So far, NCC has done nothing to show that they are serious contenders for a repeat title.

I am not counting out any of the teams that you mentioned. However, aside from preseason rankings, on field performance is the only criteria that should be used when ranking teams. After all teams have played 9 or 10 games, there are enough game results that nobody should be ranking teams based on last year's results.

Dino, I will agree to disagree. Look at NCC schedule and the teams they have lost to. Maybe the top 4A school in NKY, #3 3A in the state, #1 1A team in the state(in most polls) and a top 10 1A team, that might be why their record is the way it is. Just remember I said don't count them out but they won't get past BHS this yr. As for the BHS loses, I will take those two teams against any of the teams Frankfort plays.

The past is the past but it does help to have kids who have played w/that kind of pressure.

As for the Frankfort win over Danville trumping the BHS win over NCC, maybe according the BGP poll but let's face facts, being humans we will always look at past performances to make our decisions. The past is always in the back of our minds. Their win Friday was huge, hats off. They shocked the state except for the Frankfort residents. Give credit when credit is due but can they beat them again and then get past the likes of Bardstown, Mayfield, time will tell.

Frankfort no higher than #4/5, again we will have to wait and see the opinions of the experts here at BGP to find out! I can't wait to view the other polls also.

I agree with most of what you are saying. It is very possible that Danville was over rated in the polls and it is also possible that they will dominate their next game against Frankfort. All I am saying is that the BGP panel was convinced that Danville was #1, so a 7-2 team with a win last week over the #1 ranked team has a pretty good claim for the #2 spot over any team with an equal or worse record. I expect that Beechwood will be ranked #2 and Frankfort will be ranked 3rd or 4th, but I would give them the nod for the second spot myself - if I had previously ranked Danville the best 1A team in the state.

I'm sure Foley and Co. couldn't care less where they are in the polls. All that matters is winning one game at a time from here on out.You do make an excellent point for FHS to move up in the rankings. I'm sure it would delight the fans in Frankfort.:thumb:

Personally, I don't have a vote in the BGP rankings and if I did I would have had Bardstown #1 all along, which, IMO, they should be now...Danville would have been my #2 and Beechwood #3, so, I think it's possible Frankfort could move up to the #2 spot, mainly because most voters still feel Danville is a top 3 or 4 team and if they choose to put them there, they would almost have to put Frankfort in front with its convincing win...I know some feel it was an upset, but, upsets are usually alot closer

In one more week the polls won't mean anything anymore. It's almost playoff time and thats when all that arbitrary junk goes out the window.

Couldn't agree more, eveyone is 0-0 again and rankings mean absolutely nothing. Just makes for good debate.

Agree! I am sure that the actual rankings don't really matter to the coaches and players, only to the fans. If, however, this were the BCS....................

The BCS would have Bardstown #1(undefeated). Frankfort would not jump to #1 or #2 due to their previous low ranking. They may get in at #3/4?
