Coming from a position on the assistant coaching staff at Mayfield.

Congtatulations and good luck to Coach Champion and the Lakers.

That's a strong name, at the very least.

@Mayfieldsportsfan @Cardinals44 @rookie57 ...any chance any of you can fill us in on Coach Champion's background?

How long he's been coaching, whether he's been with any programs other than Mayfield, what positions he's coached, whether or not he's been a coordinator, etc?

@cardinal89 Any input from you?

Coach Champ has been at Mayfield his entire career. The players love him.

Big loss for Mayfield.

Offensive guy? Defensive guy? Position coach? Coordinator?

I have a great story that will tell you what kind of man Coach Champ is.

When my oldest son was in eighth grade he was on the varsity track team. He threw discus but had no one to teach him how to do it. Coach was on a track scholarship to Murray St. He saw Scott throwing discus and walked over to offer some advise. He drove from Murray everyday to help Scott. He wouldn't let me give him gas money, he said it was something he enjoyed doing.

Defensive line I believe. All three of my sons would knock down a wall for him. Calloway Co. is getting a great young coach. Big loss for Mayfield. He already lives in Calloway Co.

Tremendous lineman for the Cardinals in the early 2000s. Great guy.

He was on the 2002 15-0 State Championship team.

I know Jones got all the accolades, but I thought he was their most consistent/solid contributor up front on that team.

Love this story!

One thing that I really want, is for him to win a title. He apparently seems like a really good guy and everything like that, and probably deserves it. But, I just want to have a "Coach Champion is a championship coach" type of thread.

Congratulations to Coach Champion and his family!
