I used to be a huge fan in the 80's to mid 90's. I'll still watch the super speedway and Charlotte races, but I just don't connect with any modern drivers enough to really watch much more than that.

 

I enjoyed it a lot and even attended the first Brickyard, I may give it a longer look this year. Just wish there was a driver or team that I really liked.

 

Like I mentioned above I try to stick to the racing (vs. the drivers) but you should try a little Formula 1.

If there is nothing else to watch on a Sunday afternoon I'll check out a race for a while.

 

I do enjoy going to Sparta to take in the races in person.

 

That is how it started for me.

 

I normally DVR all the races and watch about a hour a night because I just can't sit there for hours on end watching anything but football.

Wife watches almost every event on TV and would like to go to a race someday. I have less than zero interest. They still draw lots of fans, but I have read that attendance is down something like 20-25% over the past decade or thereabouts.

 

The fact that they have their signature event right out of the gate seems goofy to me.

 

They have talked about attendance some but as long as the sponsors keep paying there are no worries.

They changed so much, they lost me as a regular fan. If I go up to my Dads, I will watch if he is watching, thats about it.

Kentucky has improved as a venue but I would not put it in the same class with Daytona, Bristol, Charl, or Richmond. It's a better venue than Dega, but the "racing culture" there makes up for the facility. I'm not a big fan of the Indy track. Too many limited views and NASCAR rules packages have had a hard time creating good competition there.

One cool thing about going in person is having a scanner and listening in on the race teams. They can be quite colorful. :lol2:

My dad and I had our own scanners we bought that we could get every race team, you could program it for up to 5 frequencies open at once, made pit stops interesting, spent some serious money for those back in the day. It definitely is a plus.

I really enjoy NASCAR, but I can't dedicate enough time to watch green to checkered. I typically will watch the pre-race and the beginning, and then if it works out, I'll watch the last 25 laps or so. If one of my favorites are in the mix, I'll watch more.

 

My favorite races to watch are:

* Coca Cola 600

* Daytona 500

* Bristol night race

* Bristol day race

When it comes to Formula 1 and their crazy starting times by American standards using your DVR is a must!
