Scott 82 Holmes 72

Featured Replies

First time seeing either one of these teams this season.

Quick side note is that Chad Ohmer did not play in this game.

On a super cold Tuesday night Scott fans travelled fairly well filling the seats rather adequately, and while sprinkled with attendees, and the Bulldog Band, the Holmes side looked to be a bit on the empty side (but it can being as large of a gym that it is).

First thing that impressed me was Scott's quickness and defensive tenacity. They could just be downright pests, and throughout the game every dribble and pass was contested, and often times stolen. I'm a little rusty on players' names, and I'd hate to leave out anyone who should be recognized, but one guy that caught my attention for the Eagles was Jr. David Hunter. I haven't seen the final stats, but my guess would be that his are significant. Again I feel bad for not being able to give attention to anyone else by name, but that is no reflection on the well coached solid teamwork that was fully on display.

Being a Covington boy, I'm always excited to see what the Dawgs look like each season, and while they have the big challenge of a 35th that undoubtedly belongs to Covington Catholic, I still like the never say die fight in these guys. I see by their roster they are top heavy with 7 seniors, starting 5 with the other 2 getting significant minutes. Listerman looks to be running a tight ship having his team's respect and attention with the added bonus that these kids look like they're all genuine friends excited to be playing together.

Though both teams started the game at a frenzied pace with quickness and lots of scoring, The Eagles got the edge and jumped out to a 31-19 first quarter lead. The 2nd quarter saw this lead expand to as much as 15, and while I'm sure that most (including myself) thought by then that the game was over, the Holmes Bulldogs had other ideas chipping away to only being down by 9 going into halftime.

Starting the 3rd period they continued with this pace finding themselves pulling within 2 somewhere around the 55-53 mark, but frustratingly just could not get over the hump, but giving credit to Scott they did not fold when the momentum had obviously swung in the Dawgs direction, and stayed the course to keep pushing their lead back to 5, then 7, then 9, then 7, then 5, then 7...you get the idea. Holmes kept it interesting and within striking distance, but Scott stubbornly wasn't having it.

Even in this loss I was still impressed by the Bulldog's tireless team effort that saw them never lose hope while staying focused and driven. This will keep them in many games, and in a tight race between them, Beechwood, and Holy Cross, this could certainly help them punch their ticket for possible district runner-ups come late Feb/ early March.

Lead by the quickness and finesse of their point guard Jarrod Miller, the Dawgs while no one is trying to be the star, have a nice cohesive group of talented senior leadership helping to row the boat. Each one, be it Commodore, Saxon, Sterling, Race, Gaither, or Gulley showed experienced confidence and reliability being where they should, and backing each other up displaying a good teamwork ethic along with sound contributions showing of each their dependable talented abilities.

We get to really find out where these Bulldogs stand in the 35th District this coming Friday night when they face off in the crosstown shootout with the Holy Cross Indians at the Finn. So what that neither one of these teams will be playing at Rupp this season, this is what the excitement and rich tradition of 9th Region basketball is all about!

Good synopsis. High scoring game.

Outstanding observation for just seeing Holmes for the first time, as the pa guy for Holmes, I see these guys at home and on the road, this team plays extremely hard, they just miss so many shots under the basket, Coach Listerman really likes this team and we as Bulldog fans are hoping they can make a run in the 35 th, I told someone last night, this Scott team is the quickest team I have personally saw this year, well coached and should make a run in the tenth. Best of luck to both teams.

Is the pipeline dry in Covington KY as far as underclassmen? Also, will this be Coach Listerman's last season before he retires?

Why was Ohmer Out?
