December 30, 20178 yr So one team holding one of the best offenses in the country to 7 points is somehow discrediting? You knew there was gonna be one bitter UK fan who just lost to a bottom end B1G team comment lol.
December 30, 20178 yr So one team holding one of the best offenses in the country to 7 points is somehow discrediting? You and I and 9 other BGPers could have held USC to 7 points with the play calling USC had, so Im not so sure that holds merit, and the only reason they had 7 was because OSU dosent know how to field punts.
December 30, 20178 yr Author You knew there was gonna be one bitter UK fan who just lost to a bottom end B1G team comment lol. I figured it would come and I'm surprised it took this long, but that one was particularly ridiculous.

The playcalling? Haha so the playcalling is why the OSU D line was in the backfield the entire game? This wasn't some run of the mill team. It was a PAC 12 champion.
December 30, 20178 yr @GrantNKY I don’t like how people are upset with Denzel but that was coming also.

PAC 12 Champion means what? PAC 12 is a garbage conference at current, look how bad their refs are for petes sake. OSU was clearly the better team no question, but with the 4th grade play calling USC made, OSU should have beat them by 40+. Lets also not forget that the only reason USC had 7 points was because OSU cant field a punt.
December 30, 20178 yr Author @GrantNKY I don’t like how people are upset with Denzel but that was coming also. I was very dissapointed seeing that as well. I get we as fans are fans of the team, but when someone has given as much to the program as Ward has, I have no problem with him doing what's best for him. I'm positive Urban and the rest of the coaches were on Denzel's side as well.

Somehow you are twisting that to say that OSU didn't deserve to be in the playoff discussion. Ridiculous. Did OSU prove last night that the commitee got it wrong, no. But they certainly didn't hurt their case.
December 30, 20178 yr So one team holding one of the best offenses in the country to 7 points is somehow discrediting? Don't forget the vaunted OSU Offense (ranked 7th in FBS Total Yards) was pretty anemic looking also. -JT threw for 114 yards and was OSU's leading rusher with just 66 yards. -OSU was held over 250 yards below their average in this game. (USC was held 110 yards under their average) -OSU only had ONE drive that went more than 6 plays and it went for 13 plays and led to a FG. Other than that drive, only one other drive was longer than 33 yards. The original post said that this game proved neither team belonged in the playoffs and I agree...neither team showed anything that makes me think they deserve to be in the top 4.

If you watched OSU play defense last night and didn't think they could have belonged in the playoff then you weren't watching the same game.
December 30, 20178 yr Not sure I'd call USC one of the top offenses in the country. At least not in scoring. Still, 7 points, and on a short field at that, is impressive.
December 30, 20178 yr If you watched OSU play defense last night and didn't think they could have belonged in the playoff then you weren't watching the same game. USC also shot themselves in the foot a lot, so that helped. USC was still able to gain 23 1st downs (OSU had 13) If not for the 4 USC turnovers (granted OSU get's some credit for them also) how many total yards would USC have ended up with, they had 413 yards total offense as it was and OSU fans act like they held them to less than 100 yards. OSU would have struggled to score last night against any of the playoff teams. They couldn't convert on third down (2 for 12) and couldn't put drives together beyond one drive for a FG. This was a perfect storm for OSU last night, USC kept shooting themselves in the foot and JT was adequate enough to not lose the game for them. Stats don't lie, OSU offense was nearly horrible and the defense wasn't as good as you think it was...outside of the sacks (which were huge) defense struggled when they didn't get to the QB...hence the 400+ yards of total offense.

December 30, 20178 yr USC was top 15 in total yards I think. I don't think they were top 25 in scoring though. At least they weren't late in the season.

USC shooting themselves in the foot or OSU forcing turnovers? It's all in which shade the glasses were that you were watching the game in. OSU was missing their top 10 draft pick corner, and every single big play OSU gave up was Darnold attacking true freshmen Okudah who wouldn't have even been out there had Ward been there. You can't just throw out the sacks either because that has been the core of the OSU defense the entire year. The sacks are why they are so good.
