December 14, 20178 yr And Columbus doesn't have a pro basketball team...and based on the numbers I've seen, they aren't very comparable in size or population either. Columbus has about 200,000 more people than Louisville. Columbus has the Blue Jackets and the Crew (for now), but Ohio State runs that city just like UL runs Louisville. That's why I think it's a good comparison. I compared Columbus to the NFL and Louisville to the NBA because the biggest draws in their respective cities are college football and basketball.

OKC is the 41st largest in the country and Louisville is 44th. But again we are talking about basketball and football being compared with OU and the Thunder. In Louisville it would be college basketball vs the NBA and that dynamic would not work.

Beyond that, are we really going to argue that adding a pro sports team to a city, especially a city that already has an arena, brings no additional benefit?
