Add Bailey to the list and get a #3 or #4 and 2 solid relievers and I like our staff a lot.

I'll go on record right now, that if Bailey is in the starting rotation, in '07....Bailey will not win more than 8 games.

 

Making the jump to the "big show" is one thing, making the jump successful, depends a lot on the other 8 behind you.....

Agreed and I just don't understand, all the fans calling for Bailey to be the saviour.

 

Making the move to the bigs', is not an easy transition and asking a young, talented prospect to carry a .500 team, is not the answer and certainly not good for Bailey's mental approach.

 

I agree with GT, he's definitely in the plans and rightfully so, but fans need to have realistic expectations about him and more importantly, when he struggles.....and Bailey will, don't throw him out with the bath water but be patient.

 

The Reds need to finalize the position players and roles, then I look for them to trade, package or move some and go after some starting pitching.

I think they are about 1 1/2 to 2 starters away from being pretty good. I like Harang and Arroyo, and Lohse and Milton are ok. Between those 4 we have a solid 3 pitchers most of the time. If we could get someone who's comparable to the first 2 I think they can be solid. Hopefully Homer can step up and be that guy and then we'll have Franklin, Elizardo, and a vast majority of others who can start. I'm also curious to see if Bray could start. I think he's good enough to be a very effective starter or closer. I hope he isn't in the middle relief role next year.

Well said my friend and once Lohse, gets into his winter program with the Reds, he has the pitching ability to be very effective. I've already overstated, my thoughts on the other you mentioned.

 

There is an abundance of middle relief pitchers and I see several, getting moved or included in package deals, to enhance in some areas. Getting healthy arms back, would be a plus.

If Bailey started day one, pitched 200 innings, and was uninjured all year I think he'd win 12-15 games easy. I don't think he'll be on the team opening day, he won't pitch that many innings if he is, and at some point and time he will have arm trouble if he does. I think you coast him for a month or two next year then bring him up and "toss him to the wolves." If he's going 6 innings every five days he should be healthy and strong by June 1st and he'll be ready to come up and help the ball club.

So you guys are saying, that Bailey would win as many games as Harang and Arroyo did, next year if he's in the starting rotation....that would put them near 96± wins for '07, which would be good.

 

I just respectfully disagree and my reasons, it takes pitchers more time to adjust to MLB hitters, than hitters to adjust to pitchers....

 

I'll stand by my statement 8 wins or less....Hope I'm wrong.
