If they base it on spring training I think he'll make the club. There will be other issues that come into play.

And we have went there where for each you name, you can name one that experienced NO problems in coming up at the same age. Heck Don Gullet was in the bullpen for the Reds at age 19. And did pretty well for them.

 

Had some problems when he went to the Yankees and that was a darn shame.

I would have brought him up this season. Had he pitched decent at all the Reds might have won the division.

You can name more that were injured or lost something because they came up early. Gooden, Steve Avery, Rick Ankiel. I can't think of any pitchers that came up at 19 or 20 and had a long dominating career.

Yes, give him his shot and the Reds, desperately need a #3-#5 slot filled.

 

I don't want anyone to think, I don't like Homer Bailey....I most certainly do like him, his FB, his age. He needs to add some weight and offspeed pitches, needs better command.

 

My main point with Bailey or any youngster....It takes time and fans will need to be patient, while he learns the NL hitters. He will look great at times, while others....like a skinny rookie but experience can't be substituted.

His mechanics were considered "flawless" by many and he still has battled injuries. The likely hood of hurting yourself is much greater if you have pitches that aren't effective. You force them to work which results in mechanical flaws. They don't want Bailey to do this because it is sometimes so psychologically devastating that people never regain the form they had at the young age of 19 or 20.

According to this website, http://baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=clemero02, the Rocket made his appearance at the age of 21. I would assume that we can agree that he had a good career.
