Cincinnati Zoo Euthanizes Hippo Henry

Featured Replies

This is just awful.

Henry (Fiona's dad) had been sick with some sort of illness for a month or two. Vets determined this morning that he would continue to deteriorate and made the decision to euthanize Henry.

I'm probably way more sad than I should be by this news, but I love animals, especially hippos.

We are so lucky to have the Cincinnati Zoo. When my kids were little we had a family zoo pass every year. Some of my best memories are running around the zoo with them.

RIP Henry. I am sure they did their best for you!

Thought I read that it had something to do with his kidneys.

Sucks for the zoo but I think he lived the avg life expectancy for a Hippo.

Think I read 16-29 years is a range, Henry was 36.
