Class 5A

The South may not rise again in Civil War terms, but in Class 5A the "South's" will definitely make their voice heard come November. South Oldham, South Warren, and Southwestern all finished the regular season with wins over ranked foes and all have bigger dreams for hardware. Madison Southern also has plans of a deep push, but they could not keep up with the rest of their "South" brethren by losing to 4A Wayne County. At first look, two games really stand out for the opening Round. Harlan County and Pulaski County know each other well and have played each other very close in recent years, so expect more of the same. Graves County is starting to get hot and are picturing visions of 2014, but they will need to go to South Warren and win, and that will be no easy task.

5. Madison Southern vs. Atherton

6. South Warren vs. Graves County

7. Southwestern vs. Perry County Central

10. Apollo vs. Greenwood

It is good to see Fern Creek back in the top 10. I think they were looked over because of their tough schedule and a few losses. You can never count them out. They can be a dangerous team and have had some recent playoff successes.

Looking forward to seeing how the next 5 weeks plays out in 5A.

 

I view my Purples like a bottle of coke, shaken up, with the top getting ready to be removed. I think they will be laser focused and ready to take the field. I think because of their two losses in weeks 2 & 3 that teams feel the kinks in the armor has been exposed. Although it is never a good idea to overlook anyone in the playoffs (especially the Red Devils) I think BGHS is ready to prove to a handful of teams that they are still the champs.

 

In order to be the best you have to beat the best. The next few weeks will be the chance to do just that.

 

I, for one, would love to see the Purples have a shot at Covington Catholic. Not getting ahead of myself but just would love to see that game.

It is good to see Fern Creek back in the top 10. I think they were looked over because of their tough schedule and a few losses. You can never count them out. They can be a dangerous team and have had some recent playoff successes.

 

They have four "good" losses but beyond a win over Manual (who was 3-7), they really don't have any good wins. I, like you, think they're a good team. The evidence doesn't necessarily show it, though.

I appreciate the analogy and know what you are trying to convey. But when I think laser focus/precision a coke bottle spewing every possible direction unpredictably isn't what comes to mind :lol2:

- South Warren vs Graves County will be a terrific game with either team having a shot at winning. The games at South so I'll take the Spartans.

- Anderson County at Fern Creek - I know most are banking on Fern Creek at home, but I think Anderson County has a punchers chance in this game, especially if they have early success.

- Greenwood at Apollo - I believe Apollo is the better team, but this could be SR QB Jackson Adams last game in a Greenwood uniform. Don't think he won't be playing hard. If the turnovers go Greenwoods way - look out!!!

Meaning, they are ready to explode on opponents. Sorry, bogged down at work wishing Friday would hurry up and arrive.

The opening of that game will be telling. Greenwood has had a rough year, one that has fallen way, way short of expectations. I think, at times, that has shown clearly on the field. The fight and fire doesn't necessarily seem to be there at all times. It was against Highlands. It was most definitely absent against Hopkinsville. I'd like to see Jackson be able to get one more win under his belt in his prolific career, and this is a winnable game. But it is really hard to predict a win for the Gators at this point.
