October 28, 20178 yr Man it's hard to overturn that. I agree. While I do think they got it right. You usually don't see them overturn those calls.
October 28, 20178 yr I think they got the call right. Penn State guy had it to the ground and then osu pulled it away. However I still didn't think they would overrule it. Did he have it though? It looks close, but I don't see how he could say he had possession. Say it was tied and it goes to reciever and that's fine, but not that he had possession.
October 28, 20178 yr The fact that he said the receiver had possession when he landed is what I find hard to understand. What angle was he looking at? I would say the one from the very back. He had both arms on the ball and more on his chest than the osu guy. It was until they were down on the ground when you clearly see osu player pull it out of his arms. I still am surprised they overturn it though because you don't see them do that often.
October 28, 20178 yr That was a tough call. I think they got it correct after the review but man it was close. It was just kind of pinned between them.

I think the initial ruling never though the Penn State guy ever had it.
October 28, 20178 yr OSU just cannot catch a break today. I am not saying that should have been an INT or TD catch but I am shocked they overturned it. Every close play going against OSU. False starts killing OSU. A PI that should have been called and one that was not have both went against OSU...just nothing going right for OSU today.
October 28, 20178 yr Author I'm going to ask a serious question, and try not to make it sound like sour grapes. But, if a receiver has to show possession "through the process" on a play out of bounds, that usually means until they come to a complete stop going to the ground. Why doesn't that apply to situations like this? If he had it when he first hit the ground, but didn't by the time he came to a stop...shouldn't that be incomplete? (Or in this case, an interception?)
October 28, 20178 yr Not bashing PSU because I actually like them but they are doing absolutely nothing to stop OSU. OSU is clearly beating themselves.

I think it is looked at a little but differently when a defender continues to rip/pull at the ball when the receiver is already on the ground. I'd have to think that was the difference.

It cant be incomplete because the ball never hit the ground. In your situation it should be an interception.

I'd have to think that us tee difference. But was he pulling at it or simply trying to get the ball? Unless you think the reciever clearly had possession which is certainly debatable.
October 28, 20178 yr Author It can be incomplete because the ball never hit the ground. In your situation it should be an interception. Yeah, I know it couldn't be an incompletion in this situation. But just wondering why they consider when he first hit the ground as being the be-all, end-all of the possession/play.
