By this point in the season the rankings have pretty well established themselves. Good teams are evident, as are fair and bad teams. I went to Calpreps to look at schedule strength in Class 3A and see if there are any correlations with wins and losses and potential postseason success.

 

Shown below are rankings with each team's SOS rating through Calpreps. I'm no expert on how it works but the higher numbers are better and negative numbers are to be avoided. Bolded teams are in the BGP Top 10.

So in your opinions, should teams play hard schedules? Should they be soft? Should SOS affect rankings? How important is SOS to postseason success?

I’m at a loss for Belfry’s being so low. They played 2 top 5 overall teams in WV and NCC.

NCC is also having a down year their just 4-4.

Yes, however only games already played count. For instance, Casey will get a huge boost playing Corbin this week.

It doesn't rank schools by SOS, you'll have to do the arranging yourself. But you'll get an idea once you see it.

Very good. I've started looking at their score prediction for the game I'm going to each Friday night and they've been pretty accurate almost every time.

District opponents are killing Belfry's SOS

 

I am still at a loss for why Sheldon Clark re-joined District competition and then let their coach go.

 

They were outscored 203-30 in their District games.

IMHO, it is BY FAR the best CPU rating system

 

It still has it's flaws... you will always have flaws with CPU's... but the fact it accounts for out of state quality and accounts for some form of pre-season intelligence puts it on a different level compared to the Lit and Cantrall Ratings.

Calpreps seems to have a real handle on where teams actually are/ should be in strength and competition level.
