Eagles to scrimmage this Saturday

 

First pitch set for 12:00pm at Sonny Allen Field

 

The 2007 Morehead State Baseball team will be showcasing their talents this Saturday, October 7th at 12pm. The eagles first "open" workout will be two seven-inning games. Admission is free to the public.

 

First 100 kids will recieve free baseball cards packs from Topps and Upper Deck, as well as a copy of Baseball Youth Magazine.

I was in the stands for the scrimmage. Wow, the pitching staff looks great! They have some good ones this year. A lot different atmosphere than last year. Can't wait for the season to start.

So who have they added to their staff? Anyone from in state?

They added former player Scott Hacker as a pitching coach, plus another assistant Jason Neal from the Reds organization.

 

They also had 22 players, from Kentucky High Schools on their '06 roster, which I really like.

Tyler Lee (from Montgomery Co.), Josh Barnes (from Clark Co.), Clay Muntz (from Harrision Co.) all look good.

 

Freshman Chase Huffman(from Pikeville Co.), Quentin Morgan (Leslie co.), and Michael Bottoms (mercer Co.) looked real sharp. I see both of these guys pitching a lot this year.

 

Their ace Henry Mabee (from Canada) is not cleared to pitch do to an ingury this past summer, but he is expected to be back in the next two weeks.

Chase looked outstanding. They had the guy out, but they where on the field. If I had to guess, I would say he hit 90 several times.

Were these pitchers throwing to live batters or just working off the mound?

 

It's hard to judge Chase's velocity without a gun, he is so smooth and effortless looking it can be deceiving.

Yes, I apoligze I did not mention his name. He threw good as well. From what I saw, he had great control and threw a lot of ground ball outs.

I'm really glad to see such excitement about college baseball this early. I hope Morehead has a great upcoming season.

 

With some of the players they have signed this year and in the past couple of years, it's looking good for the Eagles.
