posted on msueagles.com Baseball Eagles Sign Three to National Letters MOREHEAD, Ky. - Morehead State Baseball Coach John Jarnagin and his staff have announced the signings of three high school standouts to national letters-of-intent. The newest Eagles are Michael Fear, an infielder/pitcher from South Ripley High School in Versailles, Ind., Josh Schneider, a pitcher from Oxford Area High School in Oxford, Pa., and Trey Smith, a pitcher from South Laurel High School in London, Ky. Fear is a 6-3 right-hander who has been a varsity starter since his freshman season. In 2006, he hit .367 with a .494 slugging percentage and a .510 on base percentage. As a pitcher, he was 9-1 with a 1.93 earned run average. Fear struck out 70 batters and walked only 16 in 58 innings pitched. He was named All-Ohio River Valley Conference as South Ripley went undefeated in conference play. The son of Jim and Peggy Fear who played for Coach Scott Holdsworth at South Ripley, Fear is also an outstanding student, having received the All-American Scholar Award. "Michael is a fantastic athlete who has excelled on the diamond and also on the basketball court," Jarnagin said. "He has the ability to play both in the infield and on the mound. He is a competitor and hard-worker who has achieved high success in athletics and in the classroom." Schneider is a hard-throwing, 6-2 pitcher who plays for Coach Sean Harvey at Oxford Area. As a junior, he was 7-3 with a 3.21 earned run average and struck out 55 batters in 56 and two-thirds innings pitched. Schneider also hit .423 with three home runs. An outstanding football and basketball player, he has earned all-area mention in multiple sports in his Philadelphia-area league. The son of Donald and Thelma Schneider, he is captain of Oxford Area's baseball and football teams. "Josh is a tremendous athlete who has excelled as a three-sport star," Jarnagin said. "He will be a difference-maker for our baseball team on the mound. He is a hard-thrower and a great competitor. Josh demonstrates a very high work ethic and outstanding leadership qualities." Smith is a 6-8 right-hander who plays for Coach Jeremy Brown at South Laurel. He went 9-1 last season and led the Cardinals to the Kentucky State High School Baseball Tournament. Smith had a 0.95 ERA and struck out 89 batters in 59 innings pitched. He was named to the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches' junior all-star team and earned all-district, all-region and all-sectional honors. The son of G.J. and Judy Smith, he was also a member of the 2005 Kentucky State High School Basketball championship team at South Laurel. "We are extremely excited to sign such an outstanding pitcher as Trey Smith," Jarnagin said. "He is an outstanding athlete with a tremendous up-side and work ethic. He is already a proven winner in both baseball and basketball and will bring a championship attitude to our team."

As I said above - things have changed in a positive way in the MSU strength program...Kevin Deweese worked in the Astros organization which is a plus and the players have average about 12 pound gain each. The strength and conditioning program is dedicated to baseball and it is working. Kevin was hired in last year and up until then MSU did not have a strength coach and they are reaping the benefits of him now. About Trey working hard...so true. He has what it takes. I'm sure Trey will be pushed hard by their new pitching coach.

Are you kidding me....how would you know? MSU's weight program is outstanding. The baseball team lifts four times a week. They hired a strength and condition coach last year. They know what they are doing, trust me.

Anyone know who is the winningest coach ever from Boone Co? Also what's going on with Boone County's field? I hear it's a mess.

I was at the showcase. MSU's field is looking nice. Looks like they are doing a lot of work by redoing the bullpens. Besides MSU, I believe Cumberland, Transy, Alice Lloyd, Georgetown, and some more attended, as well as a couple pro scouts. It was a great day. They played four games.

Yes, he played. Everyone got to play. Starting October 23rd, they will be playing their annual Blood Bowl World Series. It involves splitting the team up and competing in the best of seven. The looser has to give blood. It's a great cause. Also the players really gets into this. I believe they have a draft the day before. Check it out if your in the area and want to watch some good baseball. I'm sure their will be more information on this later.

Does anyone know how Walt Terrell (former Morehead State / MLB player) is at coaching? He is currently at St. Henry.

From what I remember, Drew was playing some at shortstop.

Yes, I apoligze I did not mention his name. He threw good as well. From what I saw, he had great control and threw a lot of ground ball outs.

They played two games. So off the mound to live batters.

Chase looked outstanding. They had the guy out, but they where on the field. If I had to guess, I would say he hit 90 several times.

How long has Meyerhoff been the coach at Beechwood? Didn't he coach at Lloyd as well?

Tyler Lee (from Montgomery Co.), Josh Barnes (from Clark Co.), Clay Muntz (from Harrision Co.) all look good. Freshman Chase Huffman(from Pikeville Co.), Quentin Morgan (Leslie co.), and Michael Bottoms (mercer Co.) looked real sharp. I see both of these guys pitching a lot this year. Their ace Henry Mabee (from Canada) is not cleared to pitch do to an ingury this past summer, but he is expected to be back in the next two weeks.

How many state championships has Krumps won?

I was in the stands for the scrimmage. Wow, the pitching staff looks great! They have some good ones this year. A lot different atmosphere than last year. Can't wait for the season to start. Had a nice crowd for a fall scrimmage.
