If you go to the other end of the dugout, you cut out all the fan interaction with the players at the dugout. No more throwing balls up to fans coming off the field and such.

We can find new ways of players interacting with fans, like by just tossing a ball to fans on the other side of where the netting ends.

They had that when I was there last month. That thing will shoot over whatever net they put up.

From listening to scuttlebutt at the ballpark last night, end of the dugout in GABP in the press release means the end closest to home plate. Which isn't much additional netting at all. I'm thinking what I was told was wrong because what is the point of that? If it is truly to the other end of the dugout, then that's definitely at least a start.

 

I'll be sadly disappointed if that's all they do.

Currently they don't shoot them as they go around home plate because of the netting. They did the very first game and all the balls hit the net and didn't make it to stands. So they stopped shooting it until they got past the net.

To put up a new net that goes an extra 10 feet!

MLB doesn't own the stadiums so I am not sure they have anything to say whether or not a net goes up or not. I am not sure this could happen but I would be nice if there was a net of some kind that can retract up and down. So in between innings they can still throws baseballs to fans and interact before and after games.

What I think he's saying is, if they only extend the net down an extra 10 feet (to the home plate side of the dugout) it's NOT reall showing that the organization is caring about the safety of their fans. To which I would agree. Needs to go down to the other end of the dugout.
