Youth Football Team Kneels for National Anthem

That may be true of some, or maybe even many of them, yet I have clear recall of myself at that age, and I am certain that I was already forming, and very much had a mind of my own.

If an 8 year old black kid feels pained when thinking about these type of injustices I'm not going to just write it off as them repeating what they've heard adults say.

They feel this way because it's wrong, and in a very basic human way they know it's wrong.

Kids can sometimes have very valuable things that they could tell us adults who might be full of misguided junk in our heads, when they haven't yet already been ruined.

It's an unfair and shortsighted assessment of kids to simply think that there's nothing going on inside of their young minds other than echoing what they've heard from adults.

Certainly the stimulus that they are presented is highly effective, yet their own minds too are stimulus that accepts or rejects that which they are presented with, and the assumption that they are otherwise brain dead is a grave misconception.

So the shooting was a wrongful one? You know that from looking at the facts of the case?

As to the bolded, I'm sure you did.

My approach to this topic is not related to the specifics of only this one shooting. I'm not even, nor have I anywhere within this thread debated this one case.

I think that it's clear by what I have said that I have been making points regarding black peoples' legitimate concerns and understanding their methods for expressing them, and that I don't have a problem with kids expressing this as well.

What I have yet to get is an answer by anyone is what might they suggest black folks to do to voice their concerns since its apparent that none of their approaches have so far been acceptable to many white people.

In addition to my previous response, let us also be clear that the police topic is only part of the picture regarding that which people of color have concerns.

The kids taking a knee about what has happened in St. Louis is just one example, and no matter how much people believe that 8 year old kids can't have any real understanding or true concerns in the matter simply are kidding themselves.

Sure I get that maybe their capacity for understanding everything completely is limited, but in some ways they're way more keen to stuff in a more pristine raw and basic way than even some of us so called intelligent adults.

I have an 8 year, I'm around 8 year olds pretty much daily. You pretty much couldn't be more wrong about their understanding on something like this. Their minds just do not work like that at 8 years old.

So you're going off on a tangent that isn't on topic....Gotcha.

The whole reason for this "protest" is the St. Louis situation. If you aren't going to discuss that issue, then there is no discussion to be had. That's what the thread is about.

Also, Perhaps I'm not understanding the correlation by what you have bolded and what you're asking, but I fail to see where it has anything to do with each other.

They weren't related...

If true you would be in a very very small minority of the population. I have clear recall of events that happened when I was 8 (not many but some) but no chance do I recall my mindset on anything. I would bet that most people when being completely honest are in the same boat.

100% this. And I was 8 a lot more recently than you guys. :lol2:

I see no problem with what I have discussed. You can take it as me being off topic all that you want. You saying so doesn't make it so. I have thoughts regarding this topic, and I have expressed them, and very much think that what I have addressed is relevant and pertinent.

Sorry that it didn't pass your approval, but I stand by everything that I have said without regret, or feeling that I've overstepped or overreached anything regarding this topic.

I wonder if the coach took the time to explain that you shouldnt go and steal cigars and walk in the middle of the road or try to take a cops gun from them. Maybe he taught them to make up a story like Dorian Johnson did with Hands Up.

Yeah there is a lot of unjustice in America, I just dont think it the flags fault.

Like I have said earlier in this thread, I don't believe that I was so unique or advanced as an 8 year old, yet being the youngest of 6 probably did have a huge effect on me pondering various topics before most might.

Each kid is obviously different with some having no or little comprehension at 8, while others can have lots, with probably most being somewhere in between. I don't know how exactly one can measure this, or if I can present you any data or evidence one way or another.

I still contend that it's unfair and shortsighted to broad stroke all 8 year olds as being incapable of understanding things, when some most definitely can and do.

Eight year olds believe in Santa. That is all you need to know.

I am not saying an eight year old is not capable of grasping larger issues of this world nor am I denying that we can learn valuable lessons from them, but they are very limited.... as they should be.

Boris Yeltsin became president of Russia as well as Iraq invaded Kuwait when I was eight. These events kept me up all night.

I think that we can all agree on what you're saying.

Let's say that BLM isn't the way.

Let's say that taking a knee during the National Anthem isn't the way.

Considering that both of these approaches have been met with disapproval from some white folks, can you suggest an approach for them that might be effective while also being acceptable to white people?

So you're saying only whites disapprove of what's going on?
