Wolfe County adding football?

Featured Replies

Seen a video floating around on facebook of Wolfe County having their first ever grade school game, will this eventually lead to Wolfe County High School getting a football team?

Ive heard rumblings of a Middle School team in 2019.

No, that was just your belly.

LOL

Every school should explore the option. Football is the largest revenue generating sport and there is no question it is now the most popular sport in the state. If a small county school can field a soccer team they can field a 1A football team. Many others need to do the same. Menifee, Lee, Owsley, Robertson. Look at what it has done for Bracken County.

It is also the most expensive to operate, and many of these smaller schools can't afford it.

Best I can tell unless they hire a government contractor exploring doesn't cost much. I feel many communities would be surprised at the financial support that might be generated to start up a program. If not then you have your answer and basketball practice starts next month.

Its not the one time start up cost, its the annual cost to keep the program running, no cheap.

Nothing worth doing ever is.

Unless there is a swell of community support and some businesses/boosters with deep pockets it's not possible. Sure, some examples have been cited, but, it's not easy, and many small school football programs are draining athletic budgets.

It's hard. And if you aren't successful early it could doom the program. Not to mention, raising money for 3 different football programs (Pee-Wee, MS and HS) is hard on smaller, often poorer communities.

I'm not sure theres enough bodies at the HS level to make it happen.
