Johnson Central vs. Greenup County

Featured Replies

Traditionaly some of the teams that Central has played are not so weak. North Laurel is usually a pretty good 4A team. A few years ago Bryan Station was a powerhouse(and in my opinion still have the best collection of athletes I have seen all year), Logan, WVA is usually decent, and Lawrence County is only a few years removed from being a state power, and Boyd County always has good teams. Paintsville is usually one of the stronger Single A teams in the east and in most years would be the equivalent to or better than the Raceland team that whupped on the Tomcats just this year. Matter of fact Paintsville rolled all over Raceland just last year. Some of these games are scheduled years in advance, so it's hard to predict when the down years could happen to normally sound programs. One thing that our "humble" buddy GIAT is also failing to mention in his belittlement of JC's schedule is that some of the teams he is criticizing JC for playing will be the exact same district teams that the uppity Tomcats will themselves play in a few weeks. If Johnson Central is guilty of a weak schedule then Ashland can be just as guilty, because over the term of the year I think you can say they basicly resemble one another.

Pretty much my sentiments. GIAT is obviously giddy with Ashland's (unexpected...even to die-hard Tomcat fans) turnaround after the Raceland game, and while they are to be commended and respected, he is hoping against hope that Ashland is back to dominant status. They simply aren't, and quite frankly, have had a little luck or they could very easily be 3-3, or 2-4 even. If Central had played Ashland's schedule, we'd still be undefeated and untested. The 27-3 Belfry "scrimmage" at Belfry was, as it were....drum roll please....an accurate indicator. To his credit, he's a true "athletic supporter", and it will be fun to monitor as he feeds the fire. Central's program is moving forward like never before, and there's nothing GIAT or anyone can say to stop the momentum. Success in sports is cyclical, and Ashland will surely once again have its day. It will give the grandchildren something to look forward to!!

JC WILL NOT over look Greenup County. There is no way Matney and his staff will let that happen. This game is a perfect example of what Matney has said since he has been at JC... we arent here to beat Paintsville, we are here to win a state title. And this game is one step in that direction.

This thread will probably have 2 pages so I will say this now. I have been to alot of apple days. It is always the same thing... go into town, see who's there, eat a funnel cake and a carmel apple. Go to the carnival and waste 20 dollars, talk about the apple bowl and go home. This year is going to be different... THANK GOD! We have football on friday night. When it gets around 5:30 or so, everybody needs to start making their way to eagle field. Come watch JC play Greenup County in a big district game. We should have good weather friday night, hopefully you will get to see a good fireworks display and watch JC go 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the district. This might be the last time alot of people will get to see the old football stadium and field before all the renovations and construction starts on the atheltic complex.

43-21 - JC - 2005

62-13 - JC - 2004

24-26 - Greenup - 2003

22-43 - Greenup - 2002

14-17 - Greenup - 2001

It doesnt seem like it, but these two teams have played each other for 5 straight seasons. With JC winning 2 and Greenup County winning 3. JC losses came in the Bruce Humphrey and Bill Tom Ross 5-25 (in 3 seasons) era. I look for JC to make it 3-3 this year with a big win.

Well, I haven't really followed Greenup's scores but I will take JC by 5 TDs. The big question will be can Greenup score on JC's first team defense? This defense is stout by any standards. I don't care what JC's SOS is they have been killing people on both sides of the ball. They score big points but they also don't give up points.

The only common opponent that JC and Greenup County has is South Point, OH. JC played South Point, OH at home in the 2nd week of the season, JC won 35-8. Greenup County played South Point, OH at home in the 5th week of the season, Greenup County won 36-12.

I was at the South Point game. I think JC has made great strides since then. Have to beat them by more than 30 or we will be the "non proven underdogs" going into the Ashland game. I think this team will be focused and not looking ahead. Coach Matney knows you have to win this one in order to have a shot at District title and home field advantage.

Johnson Central 35-6.

Johnson Centrals defense is going to be what wins this game. JC's offense is great, but I think JC's defense is their X factor. No team has been able to figure out their weakness... beacause there isnt one.

Here's hoping both teams are undefeated in district play and 100% healthy going in. Good luck this week. But Greenup is IMO the weakest team Ashland has seen this year by far. JC will roll this week.:thumb:
