I was at the game.

My take aways:

1. To beat T this year, your QB must be an accurate passer and when you get a chance you better capitolize because you likely won't get many more.

2. Trinity's defense will likely be the best I see this season. As another said already, last night Herron wasn't even the 2nd or 3rd best defender on the field. #19 the safety baited the QB and made the first Pick 6. That was the ball game right there. The NT was outstanding. Carmel had big lineman, but they got little running the ball.

3. Trinity's offense is pretty good with Moore a threat to go to the house every play. Outside of that they use the TE as effectively as I've seen in some time with the fake to the back and dump to the TE. It was very effective last night. The QB is just fine; seems very heedy but he had plenty of time most of the night.

4. I thought Carmel's defense was very good. T's offense only scored 17 points on them. The rest were Pick 6s.

5. For a team as highly ranked as Carmel was, their skill offensive guys were very underwhelming for me. Did T's defense have something to do with that? I'd say yes, but their QB was ineffective missing wide open receivers on multiple occasions. Was not impressed with the Carmel O.

You'd think with getting a season's worth of catches in one night he'd have had more yards. I guess Trinity doesn't block well on screens.

The calendar reads August, but the Trinity High School football team’s defense was in November form Friday night.Jacob Dingle and David Florence both returned interceptions for touchdowns and the Shamrocks’ defense allowed just 78 yards and seven first downs in a 31-3 victory over Carmel (Indiana) on Friday in the season opener for both teams at Marshall Stadium.

Trinity returned five starters from a defense that allowed just 9.8 points per game and recorded six shutouts during last year’s undefeated Class 6-A state championship season.

Carmel returned just one starter on offense from last year’s Class 6-A state championship team and provided little threat to Trinity’s defense Friday.

Down 7-0, Carmel marched to the Trinity 20-yard line late in the first quarter. But Dingle picked off a Jake McDonald pass and raced 85 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead with 2:22 left in the first quarter.

Trinity’s defense took care of the rest, with Florence’s 21-yard interception return for a touchdown making it 31-0 with 9:15 remaining.

Conner Coghlan’s 41-yard field goal at the 6:56 mark of the fourth quarter ruined the shutout bid.

Trinity quarterback Nick Bohn completed 16 of 20 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown. Luke McGuire rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, and Rondale Moore had seven catches for 32 yards.

Very disappointed in this. Let's see what kind of coverage the Sunday edition brings. Sadly, l'm not expecting much.

Dude, it's been like this for a while. Ever since they started farming out their page layout to the Indy Star. At least 3 years, if not four. I feel for Jason in this regard, because I know it kills him in terms of being able to get basic game coverage in the paper.

 

How often do you see last night's HS box scores in FB and basketball in the C-J the next day?

Newspapers are dinosaurs.....
