As read in a recent thread Shawnee thread they have decided to cancelled their scrimmage leaving Beechwood without an opponent. What's the chances the Tigers can pick up a quick opponent by Friday?

I don't know how much they tried already (I would assume that they have), but the school's Twitter account isn't indicating any further effort to find a new scrimmage opponent.

 

"Attention Tiger fans Louisville Shawnee has canceled the football scrimmage this Friday. See ya at Lloyd Friday, August 25th at 7pm!"

Thanks. Just an extra week of practice for them. I was eager to hear some details.

I know my good friend Coach Bob Burnett will not mind this. He is all about the extra practice time!! Lol

Bigger question is why this was scheduled in the first place. I don't see what either team would get out of it. it's a long trip for whomever is the visitor and Beechwood is defending 1A champions while Shawnee was tied for last in 2A and struggled to field a team.

Beechwood is a pretty tough scrimmage for most teams but I agree with your logic. Who knows, maybe no one else wanted to scrimmage Beechwood. Think about it, a 6A Team took Beechwood on last week and look at what happened.

On Beechwood's end, I would guess it came down to a scheduling issue. Most of the team's around NKY play games in Week 0 instead of scrimmages. I could also be wrong, but I believe it's difficult to schedule a scrimmage against a neighboring team from Ohio due to differing rules about scrimmaging from state to state. I haven't had a look at the full scrimmage schedule around the state, but something tells me that most of the teams in 1A and 2A had something to do that week already.

 

Now on the Shawnee side of things, I don't have many guesses. I agree, however, that this was just a bad matchup from the word go.

Beechwood was supposed to scrimmage Dixie this Friday. When Grant County decide not to compete in their district, Dixie lost a game on their schedule. Dixie looked to find another game and had to use this Friday to get their tenth game. That is is why Dixie has the odd open date on October 13 in the middle of when teams are playing their district games.

 

That left Beechwood scrambling to find someone to scrimmage. It was difficult to find an opponent with an opening on their schedule this Friday when they finally found Shawnee to fill the lost Dixie scrimmage. At this point, Beechwood has already tried hard to find someone to scrimmage. They know there is no one else available and they will have to take Friday off.

Just a thought here!! Imagine if you saw a Hazard vs Beechwood in week 0. Hazard had this opening as well until a couple months ago they worked something out with Belfry.. Definitely would of been a game of the week no doubt.

 

But the scrimmage won't hurt it just feels better going against someone else than you own team. It also should keep injuries down as well.
