Bet You Didn't Know This Song Was First Recorded By ...

Featured Replies

This catchy tune was first recorded by the Drifters. But I fell in love with it later when it was recorded later by........

Carol King wrote it, and James Taylor also had a hit with it in the late 70's

My oldest sister was also a big Carol King and James Taylor fan which rubbed off onto me...when I was a kid she had his Sweet Baby James album with "Fire and Rain" on it which I played to death.

Love that Sweet Baby James album. My older sister had that one and the Carole King Tapestry album. Carole King was an amazing songwriter who wrote hits for so many.

You Know It As: “Dazed And Confused” by Led Zeppelin, but hold on there.........it was 1st recorded by........?

I agree... Carol King is an amazing songwriter. She even wrote this lesser known psychedelic tune "The Porpoise Song" performed here by the Monkees in their unusual cult movie "Head" showing a huge departure from the pop rock sound that they were most known for.

This one is so easy, even @TAC knows who first recorded it.

Sounds like we were both blessed with older sisters with fantastic tastes in music! I wonder if they were close in age? My sister graduated from NDA in '71.

The Boss!!!

Great song, and a fantastic album.

One of my favorite album covers of all time.

Really cool trippy instrumental tune on it entitled "Waiter There's a Yawn in My Ear".

My brother graduated in 1971, but he was more of a hard rock guy. There was this Uriah Heap album cover that scared me when I looked at it!

My sister graduated in 1973. Let's say that my music tastes were more in line with hers than my bro's.

Too easy. What other song of the boss did they cover?

At the risk of giving you flashback nightmares, but judging by the year, I'm guessing that it might've been this cover...???

Had to look it up. Didn't know the answer. Actually covered 3 Boss songs total.

Jake Holmes

Jake Holmes

This is the first I had ever heard this version.

Wow...pretty trippy, interesting, and groovy. I can just imagine been all buzzed on funny cigarettes grooving to this in a New York coffee house back in the day.

Interesting find as this video really doesn't feel so 50 years ago...

Is this really Holmes I wonder, or someone doing a cover in the spirit of his original?
