Fulton City?

Featured Replies

Are these guys the real deal? Do they have a chance to win there district?

I don't think they can beat Mayfield, but they might have the ability to finish second in District 1. Those Fulton City-Fulton County-Murray-Ballard Memorial games should all be very competitive and very important this season.

Fulton City and Fulton Co are both vastly improved from previous years... Murray and Ballard are really down, so the 2 Fultons will most likely be 2 and 3seeds behind Mayfield..I don't think either can take Mayfield, but, either will compete with any other rgn 1, 1a team...

It's hard to get a fix on Fulton City...There winning big and undefeated, but, there competition level has been very weak thus far...They could use that early season success to build confidence and be a dangerous foe or they could actually play a good team, ala Mayfield, and get a real reality check..

Not a snowballs chance in a warm place

They have made marked improvement from years of dismal teams to respectability and I mentioned them in the thread about under appreciated teams but they have the misfortune of being in Mayfield's district and they have not faced anything even remotely close to what Mayfield brings. They have a great chance at runner up but almost no chance of winning the district. Mayfield has faired extremely well in district play having not lost a regular season district game since 1985 if I'm not mistaken. Murray did upset the Cards once in the playoffs in the mid 90's and that is the only district 1 team the Cards have lost to since the debacle at Caldwell County in 1985. The Cards rebounded well that year by going on to win the state championship over the Frank Jacobs led NCC. Fulton Co did manage to beat Mayfield in the early 90's in the opening game of former Coach Paul Leahy's first campaign as Cards head coach but Fulton County was 1A at the time. Mayfield also responded well that year going on to win the state championship over Prestonburg with the help of nearly the entire Danville Admiral Football team cheering the Cards to the title at old Cardinal Stadium. It seems there was bad blood between Prestonburg and the Ads that year who were somehow upset by the Blackcats in the Semis. Prior to the losses mentioned the Cards only other district losses were in the early 80's to a state titlest Ft. Campbell coached by Marshall Patterson

Actually, Fort Campbell beat the Cardinals during the regular season one year, either 1990 or 1991. Mayfield returned the favor by winning on post in the playoffs.

At that time I was away in college but still followed the Birds close, your rarely wrong and I was out of town but I'm almost 100% sure that I'm right about 85 on this one. I think your thinking of when they beat us in 80 or 81 which I believe is the last time that Ft Campbell has beaten us and if memory is correct (keep in mind I was young back in this time) we returned the favor beating them in the playoffs in a game where we were down 21-0 at the half and came back to win it.

We are visiting Murray State University this weekend as my daughter will be attending MSU next year. I know Mayfield is only about 20 miles or so away from Murray and I know how to get there from Murray, but where in Mayfield, is the field? Just might go over and see Mayfield play since I have seen both NCC and Beechwood play, to see who is the best of the lot. Will I be able to purchase a ticket at the last minute at the gate?

Yes...you will be able to purchase a ticket at the gate...tickets are $5 at the gate. Should not be a full house as sometimes the Cardinal faithful take a game or two off...especially after the Sunday packed house against Tilghman. I hope that you see the Cards play their "A" game as the coaching staff has stated this week's practice has not been their best week coming off the short week and emotional win...so hopefully the Cards will not be flat tonight.

To get to the stadium from Murray...take 121 into Mayfield and at the first light as you come into town turn right...this is the Dick Castleman Bypass. Stay on this road until you come to the tennis courts and swimming pool...after you pass them take the first left...if you go the hotel you have gone too far. Once you are on this road you will see the stadium up on the left.

Good luck getting to the stadium and hopefully you will see a good show.

Thanks......

We would love to have you come see the Cards, Theoldguy...Fulton might give the Cards a game for a while, but the Cards should roll in this one!

As for Fulton City, the Bulldogs are much improved and do have a chance to finish 2nd in the district, but I just don't see anyone beating the Cards in this district...according to various ratings when Mayfield and Fulton City clash the Cards will be about a 39 pt favorite as well as for tonights game vs Fulton County. The Cards are favored by 37 or so against Murray and a whopping 47 points against Ballard Memorial. It is nice to see the Fulton's doing well for a change recently!

Strength of Schedule in Class A District 1:

Mayfield plays the 3rd toughest schedule in Class A

Murray plays the 17th toughest

Ballard Memorial plays the 38th hardest

Fulton County 39th hardest

Fulton City 51st hardest out of 51 teams...

I already knew that. ;)
