July 5, 20179 yr Chicago has inquired about Detroit's Ace Justin Verlander and Catcher Alex Avila. The Cubs need a strong pitcher/Ace for the second half of the season if they wanna try and repeat as World Champs or even make it to the playoffs for that matter and not to mention, both John Lackey and Jake Arrieta are both free agents after this season. Of Course, Chicago would have to give up some type of prospects back in order to make this work. Ian Happ? Javy Baez? Both? Both + More? Also the only other thing that would hold up any Verlander deal is his contract. Most of this is my own words but I did get some of it from ESPN. Real or not? July 7, 20179 yr Verlander is an ace? 5 ERA and a flyball pitcher at Wrigley? I'd be really surprised if Epstein pulls the trigger on this one. I think Sonny Gray is a much better option.
