No. I'm acting like people lose their minds over pit bull deaths and all but ignore other issues in which people, in particular children, are much more likely to die. The result is 4 million pit bulls get lumped in with an extremely small percentage of dogs that have killed people (less than one one-thousandTH.) The result is whole cities banning a dog breed, while ignoring other issues in which people, kids in particular, are more likely to be killed.
August 4, 20179 yr I didn't "go" anywhere but where you led. You said that you had not heard of a golden killing someone. Now you have. Education is good. My golden/sheltie mix is absolutely the love of my life, but she is aggressive with children. It is probably the herder in her and most likely she would never actually hurt a kid. However, she is never going to be in a scenario where that could happen. I don't let her around kids, with the exception of one of my 7 year old nieces, while she is directly supervised by me. My job is to protect both my dog and the people she comes in contact with. Amen it is...:thumb: The attack listed is a golden retriever mix. Doesn't list the breed mixed with. As I am literally typing this Mrs. C1 and her Mom are visiting a breeder to see our families next Golden. We'll happily pay top $ for a pure breed to eliminate "risk!" We just love the breed and will continue to be loyal to it. Just as many dog owners are whether it be a pit or Shelty, etc.... The key is we must be aware and well educated on a breeds tendencies and behaviors and again prevent the conditions were a potential attack occurs. I like eliminating risk by not introducing it into my home or other loved ones homes to begin with. Boundaries and education are very important. Is it the American Staffordshire Terrier? The Bull Terrier? The American Pit Bull Terrier? The Staffordshire Bull Terrier? The answer is it's all of those, plus many others. When the "breed" includes many, many actual breeds, of course numbers will be higher. Remember, pit bull is not a breed...

August 4, 20179 yr I am very happy that Pit bulls are banned in Fort Thomas. Good for you. Your kids can still legally have unfettered access to hand guns and accidentally kill their 3 year old cousin, but at least no one can own a pit bull!

The first week of June we brought home our second Golden. She was born on April 1st. Like your family we absolutely love the breed.

We beat the "pit bull" drums pretty hard, but never say a word when one kid accidentally shoots another with an unsecured fire arm. More kids die that way every year than total deaths from pit bulls. It's true on a larger scale, too. Municipalities have over reacted and invoked breed bans when their kids are much more likely to die from unsecured weapons. They do nothing about that. But hey...at least no one can have a pit bull!
