Religious Freedom or Religious Discrimination Bill?

Featured Replies

No, I don't see.

How can there be honest, open dialogue, when some have decided that others wouldn't understand another view?

I can see see both sides of this issue. Some concerns from both sides are legitimate and some are unfounded.

It's the elitist thingy. Labeling when a person has no idea. Why can't debates happen without labeling? That is why no one will debate some people because of labeling. That is why it isn't worth the effort. Simple as that.

When one states that others wouldn't understand, prior to even hearing what the other has to say, that is elitist.

Why have an attitude like that? Why can't debates happen without preconceived notions?

Not being critical at all. There is no understanding of the other side of the issue if you have the Religious Liberty mindset. It is all or nothing. But educate me.

The First Amendment gaurantees freedom of religion. ALL religions.

I agree, so why the hoopla from the POTUS.

IMHO it was due to the hoopla over Hobby Lobby, Little Sisters of the Poor, Chic-Fil-A, the IRS debacle, etc. by the Left. Maybe he felt a need to state his position same as President Obama did. That's my best guess.

I personally don't see how this changes anything in the law.

IMHO I don't think he cares one bit and was trying to appease that faction of those that want to discriminate against others because of their religious beliefs and voted for him, plus the VPOTUS. Simple as that. By the way, I can tolerate The POTUS because I do believe he is moderate on some levels. The VPOTUS is absolutely intolerable.

Because he believes different than you may? That can be considered intolerant.

I'm a live and let live type of person. If someone believes different than me, that is fine. You do your thing and I'll do mine. It's all good.

I think you are getting all worked up over much of nothing. As I stated, the law hasn't changed.

First of all, I am not worked up in the slightest. I have more important things than to get worked up over a BGP thread. Could care less what he believes. I just don't want him to be POTUS. That would be intolerable to me. Thank God he isn't. I realize what the POTUS said or declared or whatever he did isn't going to change things, you wanted the discussion, so I tried but there continues to judgments what is being stated.

Yep, reinforces my desire not to post in political threads.

What judgements?

I think you should read your posts again. See the way you can come across.

The bottom line with a Bill/Practice like this is it allows Religious Groups to ignore the laws of the land.

I think our country is susceptible to that because we pass legislation that is in direct violation of religious doctrine.

Our government has made a religious belief, part of their political platform. And if we want to separate the church from the state, while not showing favoritism to any religion but also not trying to alienate any religion........ it is a circular argument.

I hear you, those Equal Rights Laws don't mix well with my way or the highway doctrines.

The Johnson Amendment allows for churches and pastors to speak on any religious, ethical, and moral issue. What a church or pastor can't do is endorse a particular candidate and/or political party. What's wrong with that?

There is nothing wrong with that but this action by President Trump allows a church or pastor to go beyond what you are describing. Additionally it allows religious groups to discriminate against against anyone that doesn't believe the way they believe.
