D-1 players in the 9th region

With all due respect to the kids involved, there aren't 10 D-1 basketball prospects in the 9th region or NKY; and it's been a while since there was!! I'm sure the same can be said of most other regions as well. It's pretty special for a kid to play D-1 basketball, especially a the higher levels!!

That said, I'd guess Holmes's Austin Hill and Greg Rice would be #'s 1 & 2??

PS: Welcome to the site DHHS!!

Isn't the signing period coming up in November? Any word on where Austin might sign?

I still include Duran in any list that talks about D-1 ability from the 9th. I think if he hadn't signed to play football we would be discussing which D-1 basketball schools he would be considering.

Thats a good point....not at UK, but without a doubt at least a smaller D-1 school.

With all due respect to Greg, I dont believe you will see him playing d-1 basketball. I would say Austin has the only chance of doing that in the 9th. Kiernan and Jefferson could possibly but they are going with football.

Agreed. Rice cannot play a 1 or 2 in D1 and at 6'3 he cannot play a 3 or 4.

I agree... after this year Mr. Rice will be done. That is unless he does well in the classroom and becomes a team player and gets some looks from smaller schools. With all of his past problems I don't see many college coaches taking a chance on him unless he does a complete 360 with attitude and team play. I don't know how he does in the classroom so I will just be general in stating that he will need to perform there as well.

Austin Hill will get looks this year and don't be surprised if he goes somewhere like Western KY or a school like that. Other than that... Duran is going football and Kiernan will probably go that route as well. I don't see any others as far as D1.

Agree with Duran having the ability to play smaller D-1, but knew he was already signed in football. IMO--I don't see D-1 basketball ability in Kiernan?? I've watched him for years and he's really what I'd call a garbage man, scoring on putbacks, etc. No shot to speak of and an average rebounder considering the size advantage he normally has. At the D-1 level you better be a lot bigger than he is, unless you can shoot, pass, etc. Football is where he'll make his mark!!

What about CCH's Todd Jacobs? Maybe a mid-level to smaller D-1?

With Kiernan I agree with you on the fact that he really doesnt have d-1 game but he has d-1 frame and that seems to matter most now a days. He probably could have went to a smaller d-1 school for basketball. As for Jacobs, I see him winding up at NKU. He's a great player and if he was 6ft 4 or 6ft 5 he probably would be getting d-1 offers but at 6ft 1in d-2 or NAIA is probably more in his future.

:thumb: As many have said, NKU is a perfect fit.

To be honest, Austin Hill of Holmes is the only player that will play D-1 basketball. He is already getting offers from UC, Xavier, Louisville, Mississippi St and a couple other small D-1 colleges like Western, Eastern, etc.

As for Duran, he hasn't signed his LOI yet. He has just verballed. He may change his mind come hoop season depending on how everything goes.

But as of right now, I only see Austin Hill playing D-1. He already has the frame and build and can play either a 1-2 or 3 in college.

Not sure Zach's big enough for the D-1 programs? I'm guessing he's maybe 6'6", and with limited offensive range; you need to be 6'9"+ to be a D-1 #4 or #5. If you look at other recent big men from the area (Penick, Votel, etc.)that went D-1, all had good shots, range, and were much more athletic. Great football frame however!!

I think you mean "interest" and not "offers."

I really dont believe Austin has the frame to play the 3 spot at any college let alone a d-1 school. He's got a good body but he is only 6ft 1in.

Why won't anyone believe that he is 6"3, at least. It is coming from a source very close to Holmes athletics (fballstud) and a supporter of their biggest rival (me).
