Discussion of the 2017 All BluegrassPreps.com Girls Basketball Team

Featured Replies

I have an incredibly valid opinion as I said straight out that I had not seen Robins play, but quite frankly, if you have not seen Harbison play and do not know who she is (as the original responder to me said) then YOU DON'T HAVE A VALID OPIONION!

I have heard from many people how good Robins is but I have not seen her play which is why I said what a reasonable person would say.

However, I have seen the SK girl and if she is a frontrunner for Miss basketball then that contest is a joke! She is a nice player, probably a second or 3rd team all state player but Miss Basketball? No flipping way and I don't have a dog in this fight!

You have an incredibly valid opinion on who should win miss basketball yet you haven't seen Seygan Robins play? I don't understand. If you had followed girls basketball at ALL over the past 3 to 4 years you would have seen Seygan Robins play at least once. It's not like Mercer County is hiding out and playing only local teams...they have been in every major event in this state. She just won the MOP award at the sweet 16....If you haven't seen her play then no, you don't have a valid opinion on who should win miss basketball.

And Male HS and Harbison have been at every major event so anyone who says they don't know who she is doesn't have a valid opinion either, right????? Or is this just the usual out in the state biased dig towards the players in the 6th and 7th Region?

First off, I have seen all of these kids play several times. I, unlike you, make a point to watch all of the best players in the state...which include those both inside and outside of Louisville. You can look it up if you want, but I said that the 2017 Miss Basketball would come down to Duvall vs Penn...both 6th region kids. So no, I am not "biased" towards kids inside of Louisville. It sounds to me like your view is biased because it appears you don't get outside of Louisville to watch a basketball game....although you wouldn't have had to get outside of Louisville to watch Seygan Robins since Mercer has participated in the LIT, Raatz Fence, and actually traveled to Butler for regular season game this year.

Your point about Harbison is fine...she is a talented player. Recently committed to St. Louis and probably would have had more and bigger offers had she waited to commit. No, I don't think someone who hasn't seen her play has much of an opinion on Ms. Basketball either...although it would have been much easier to miss her since her team hasn't been to the state tournament in 2 years (the most visible of all high school bball tournaments in Kentucky).

All I said was "if you haven't seen Seygan Robins, then you probably don't have a valid opinion on Miss Basketball." I stand by that statement. If you haven't seen her play, then there is no way you are informed enough about basketball around the state to make a claim that someone should win miss basketball. You wouldn't have even had to leave the city of Louisville to watch Seygan play 4 or 5 times this past season.

Okay, dad, here's the deal.. The point he is trying to make is that your opinion on Girls High School Basketball in the state of Kentucky is far from valid if you have never found yourself sitting in the bleachers at an event Seygan Robins is dominating. You find yourself undeserving of having a valid opinion due to your lack of involvement in KY High School Girls Basketball. Never seeing Robins means you didn't attend the LIT, Raatz Fence/Oshea's Classic, Hoops for Harvest, #1 Mercer vs. #2 Butler @ Butler, or ANY of Mercer Co's 8 Sweet 16 games in the past 3 years... Your opinion is thus invalid due to your lack of involvement. Sorry dad.

I said I had as much of a valid opinion as someone who had not watched Harbison play and also didn't even know who she was. I never said anything other than that, never said Harbison was a lock for Miss Basketball and never said Robins should not be considered. So for the sake of a reasonable, rational discussion, please quit saying that I am saying things that I am not.

This was not even a discussion with you about the subject and I in no way suggested your opinion was not valid. In fact, I admitted up front that I had not seen her play so I couldn't give an overall Miss Basketball assessment.

Please learn to read before making a counter-point to a point that wasn't even being made. Thanks.

You said "I have an incredibly valid opinion"....then you went on to state that you hadn't seen Robins play but you had "talked to people who had."

You made the statement "Berger and Harbison should both be frontrunners in any Miss Basketball discussion for 2018."...I am simply pointing out that your opinion on ms. basketball is not valid do to the fact that you haven't seen Seygan at one of the MANY prominent high school basketball events over the past couple of years....I assume that means you weren't actually at those events.

...so again I stand by my statement. If you haven't seen Seygan Robins play then you do not have a valid opinion on who should win miss basketball.

It should be noted that I think Berger and Harbison are both excellent players and should be considered among a select group of kids with a chance to win miss basketball next year. I would not, however, call either one of them the front runner at this point.

The front runner is clearly Seygan Robins. I am fairly confident Vegas doesn't put "Ky Miss Basketball" on the books, but I will gladly take anybody's money who wants to bet me even money "Seygan vs ______" at this point.

That would be fun thread topic...odds to win Miss Basketball 2018.

note* I am not claiming seygan is the BEST player in the state...only that she's the front runner to win Ms. Basketball. If you want to debate who is the BEST player in the state, that would also make for an excellent BGP thread.

You said "I have an incredibly valid opinion"....then you went on to state that you hadn't seen Robins play but you had "talked to people who had."

...so again I stand by my statement. If you haven't seen Seygan Robins play then you do not have a valid opinion on who should win miss basketball.

That was one statement made in response to the statement about not even knowing who Harbison was, and I made it to demonstrate the absurdity of it. You have to read all of the statements together and can't merely grab one out of context and respond to it.

And the statement was also made about Harbison and Berger IF (see that word there? Do you understand it?) Neice, who I have seen play, is considered a frontrunner for Miss Basketball. Having seen those 3 play, I have every right to say that comparably about those 3 players. Again, though, I qualified it by saying that I hadn't seen Robins so couldn't compare her to Harbison, Berger or even Neice.

So don't take my statement out of context and claim that I said something that I did not say about Robins or about the overall race for Miss Basketball.

I've been retired for 12 years from teaching and helping our school in various sports, including the last 12 years of service as AD. I know back in the day if a player had a chance on the All State teams it took some effort from our part. I know in 1983 I sent out a letter, stats, and pics to every school district in the state asking for their consideration with one of our male players. I did the same thing for another one of our players in 1990. Both times it worked, with each being named in both major newspapers as either first or second team.

Our Macie Gibson had a great year as I have already mentioned, with 29/16 averages. In addition, she's done well on the AAU during the summer, playing for one of the Kentucky Premier teams. This summer it's my understanding she will be playing for Kentucky Premier's second team, which is their Silver team. That's why I figured she might have been seen by enough people to garner more than Honorable Mention in the CJ. But sometimes the school has to toot their own horn and get the info out there to the voters. In the days of internet that shouldn't be too difficult, unlike my ancient letter writing days. :D

I'll say it again though, if there's 30 players in the state better than Macie Gibson I would sure like to be able to see them play. They'd better be darn good because I know she is.

I did not miss quote you or take anything you said out of context. I quoted an entire post above. My point is that you cannot possibly have a valid opinion on these players if you have never seen Robins play (considering the amount of high profile games/events she has been in). My guess is that since you have not seen her play, you probably haven't seen the other girls play more then a time or two...and the times you've seen Harbison/Berger it's been when Sacred Heart/Male is beating the daylight out of your daughters team....not at high level events against top level teams/players.

Ah that's cute and great to see that you confirmed your inability to logically follow a discussion. You absolutely took one comment out of context as the context within which it was made was comparing the 3 players mentioned, i.e. Neice, Berger and Harbison.

Obviously, you are intellectually unable to follow such a conversation or logically figure out why and how the comment was made.

Having said that, it is laughable to suggest that I have only seen these kids play when they were beating my kids' team. That is illogical and stupid because I actually made my comments based upon watching those 3 players respective teams play when they were beating the daylights out of the SK team when Neice was probably the 4th or 5th best player on the floor.

I would say the LIT is fairly high level but I am sure you will ignorantly dispute that as well or twist my words on it since reading comprehension is obviously not your strong suit.

lol I guess I struck a nerve.

If you haven't seen Robins play, you aren't paying enough attention to girls basketball around the state to have a valid opinion on the race for 2018 Miss Basketball. Sorry if you felt I misquoted you, but it seems like you feel your opinion is "very valid." I am just letting you know that in fact, your opinion is not valid.

You have an incredibly valid opinion on who should win miss basketball yet you haven't seen Seygan Robins play? I don't understand. Again, you are unable to read or unable to logically follow a conversation as the single comment that you selected to highlight was made in response to the poster who said they did not know who Harbison was. Do you not understand irony, sarcasm and pointing out the absurd?

I seriously have to question your intellect. Please tell me that you are not a coach and/or a teacher? If so, it explains the pathetic state of our public schools.

Otherwise, you didn't hit a nerve in the least. I am simply pointing and laughing at someone who can't comprehend a comparison between kids who played against each other and who were viewed in multiple venues. The fact that I have a life and don't sit around and frequent every flipping tournament is of no consequence because.......wait for it, wait for it..........I didn't say I was making a proclamation about the frontrunner for Miss Basketball.

Rather, what I said was that if Neice was a frontrunner then Berger and Harbison should be frontrunners because guess what Einstein.............they are as good or better than her! That doesn't mean she shouldn't be in the discussion. That doesn't mean I don't think she is a great player. That simply means that having watched them play many times and play in the same game, but yeah, the LIT sucks!, they are in the same conversation with her.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND? DO YOU GET IT? Or will I get more irrelevant and illogical responses without any substance?
