Wow , you play Hurricane in game 1 and East Jess in game 2 and decide to play for the split . Weak sauce and disappointing IMO . I'd respect the decision more if you just said " we didnt want lose to a Ky team so we saved our ace" . Am I correct that East Jess's ace is out with an injury ?

 

I have to agree here. Isn't this why you play these types of teams? Why play them if you don't throw your best and try to win? You play these types of teams as a measuring stick to see where you are and how you match up. It's makes for a memorable game for the kids. But if you don't start your best, then it goes from being nice memory (win or lose) to "I have no idea what we could have done against them" and kind of meaningless game. Almost a "well if we would have done X that day, we could have competed." Well now you'll never know. It makes no sense to me.

That's ridiculous and that is also why East Carter would probably be the 4th or 5th best team in many Regions.

This looks like nothing but saving Fouts' video game stats against no competition so she can win Gatorade player of the year again, rather than trying to win against solid competition and maybe coming up short. They going to sit her against Scott and Male too?

Neither of these games meant anything. Play to win them both and if you lose them both, it doesn't change anything. Win your district and region games - all that really matters.

As a supporter ( and resident ) of eastern Ky softball it just makes me sad , such a poor choice on a day that could brought some positive attention to a solid ball club with a VERY rare talent , the adult in the room mucks it up for the players and makes the 16th region look like " same ole stuff" . Its hard to accept the " we didnt have a catcher " excuse when the girl pitches game two .

And East Jess is not the team they have been in the past. Good team but they graduated 5 or 6 starters from last year and lost a top junior pitcher to injury. They are 6-7 and have a few middle schoolers on the team right now. If your top 10 team can't play competitively against them without pitching Fouts, you're not a top 10 team.

Have to agree again. If she pitched for me and we were playing a team of that caliber, I don't care if I have to put a peach basket back there, she's pitching! Competition is why you play the game! Challenging yourself to see where you stand and what you need to work on is why sports are fun! I don't get the catcher reasoning either. Something doesn't smell right.

 

If people are worried about stat stuffing and avoiding things that can effect you personally, then we are in a very sad world. (and no, I'm not naïve enough to think that doesn't happen all over the place. But it still doesn't make it right). Just heard a quote over the weekend..."why didn't you let my daughter play in that game? (against a not so good team) That was a stat stuffer game!"

Unfortunately in NKY "most" coaches only look at stats and win/loss records when voting for any post season awards. They don't into take into consideration the level of competition a team or player had played against. Sad, but true.

That's exactly why I'm against any of the past posts when people credit teams as undefeated against Kentucky competition. You lose a game, you lose a game. They don't put some asterisks in college saying "Well UK has lost twice but they're undefeated against SEC competition." There was no excuse for East Carter to not pitch Fouts against Hurricane. East Jessamine is not the team they were last year. If you play the best, you should put the team on the field and the players in the positions that give you the best chance to win, especially against teams like Hurricane, Scott County and Male.

There are no asterisks in Kentucky high school ball either. A bunch of teams have played and lost against out of state teams. Scott County's record isn't asterisked. A loss is a loss. I'd understand it only if the EJ game was a district game. That's the only reason to try to win a particular game and "give up" another.

Well I'm glad you said "most" because I know I try to weigh all that and also my opinion on who is the better player. Stats only tell part of the story.

 

But I can't say that I haven't been surprised many times in the voting. Unfortunately, it's who gets the stats and who gets hyped a lot and you're right, it's sad.

 

Heck, last year my pitcher only allowed 1 earned run (12 total for the year including the regional tournament) to a NKY team the entire year and ended the vote for player of the year at about 7th. She completely dominated her NKY competition and was nowhere in the running! We also had arguably the one of the best SS in the state and a huge difference maker on defense and she ended up about 5th. And our first basemen (who had become one of he best defensive first basemen in the region) out hit one of the players of the year that was on her own team. I'm glad one of our players got it, but I think they would even tell you one of the others probably should have that year. There were co-players of the year. The other was a pitcher. Its all habit and hype. I think some put too much stock into the stats and don't look at anything else and others just look at names they know.

That's not limited to NKY.

No NKY just kinda perfected it ... LOL .. just poking some fun at what all the NKY guys already say on here .
