June 16, 20179 yr No it's just big spots and has grass mixed in. I have a 40 gallon sprayer that goes on a side by side because I mow rooughly 2 1/2 acres. By the size of the lawn your mowing I imagine you can't spray it via water hose? If you have to spot spray it what ratio are you using in terms of 2-4-D per gallon of water? Typically 3 ounces per gallon will do the job and not kill the grass, you can mix it heavier but risk killing the grass as well.

Like I said I have a 40 gal boom sprayer for a side by side, I have only been using a 1/2 gal in 40 gallon and I guess I need to use the whole gallon per sprayer full. I just didn't want to mix it to hot.

I understood the bolded from the beginning, but not knowing the lawn I didn't know if your problem areas are near the house (which could be sprayed via water hose) or too far away to reach by hose. Anyway, like I said, 3 ounces per gallon should do the trick. Boom sprayers are a bit different than spraying via water hose with a 3oz per gallon setting or spot spraying with a handheld or backpack sprayer. Your traveling speed, nozzle flow, number of nozzles etc are all factors in how much spray an area gets, so getting the right amount becomes a bit more difficult to judge. 3oz per gallon won't kill your lawn though unless you are really soaking it down.
June 19, 20179 yr I bought a house not too long ago. Sits on a nice little lot, but the landscaping hadn't been particularly well attended to for probably a decade or more. I got started on the front of the house this evening. Dug out 8 barberry bushes from the beds along the front of the house, in addition to two big juniper bushes that were on the sides of my front stoop. That still leaves 6 nice mature boxwoods and a giant overgrown viburnum. I'm figuring on getting rid of the viburnum in the next couple of evenings...then I'll figure out how to modify the remaining beds around the boxwoods into something a little more to my liking. Did some work in the backyard over the weekend. Our house had a 12'x12' wood shed in the back yard when we bought it...I'd guess it was probably 25 years old or something like that. It was sitting directly on the ground. No foundations, so basically everything from the ground up to 12" or 15" was rotten all over. I had a dumpster dropped last Thursday, and I tore the shed down on Saturday. I've got about 80% of the wreckage stacked in the dumpster. I'm going to finish getting the rest in there this evening, and then use the rest of the space in the dumpster for the bushes I dug out and the branches I'm trimming out of the holly trees in the backyard. Those holly trees are no prize right now, though. The woman we bought the house from planted the 4 of them in 1960, and now they're about 35' tall and overgrown as all hell. I'm working on cutting out all the branches up to about 12'....that way I can mow and landscape underneath them without being completely shredded by the damn leaves. I also picked up some treated 4x6's to make a raised bed garden in the backyard. That's going to be my next project after finishing up the what I've got going in the yard right now, and after I assemble the replacement shed (I'm having a 7'x7' Rubbermaid Roughneck shed kit delivered on Monday).
June 19, 20179 yr We just put the finishing touches on our garden yesterday. We now have 9 raised beds in our garden area that are each 2 x 8. The green house has an additional 3 smaller raised beds. No garden at the big farm this year - we are taking a season off from canning. Got our watering complete yesterday with a soaker hose system covering everything. Now to sit back and watch it all grow!

I'm figuring on doing something like this: Ours are not as pretty as those. Wood hasn't been treated and we just used plain old nails. This was a quickly thought out project to get the garden in for this year or we weren't going to have one. I'll post a pic this evening when I get home.
June 20, 20179 yr Tonight I'm going to be trimming holly branches out of trees. I'm going to be scratched up to all hell by tomorrow.
June 20, 20179 yr Author I have a Bartlett(?) Pear in my front yard. Its roughly 2 foot in diameter about 30ft tall. Duke cut back the branches on the electric, Cincy Bell says they dont trim around their wires anymore, even after I said then some blockhead (me) could potentially take down the whole street. curious if anyone in the NKY area could send me someone reliable.

Are you liable if the tree takes out the bell wires? D you have a land line through them? I wouldn't worry about it.
June 21, 20179 yr Author We are from what I was told, liable if I take down the street. We got rid of land line three years ago. It's really more of an issue of reaching the branches. If you cut them small enough then it's not an issue, but I can't reach them without a bucket lift

June 21, 20179 yr Paying someone to do all of our yard care this year. Best investment ever. Hate every part of it.
June 21, 20179 yr Author I have homeowners insurance. I dont know about taking down the cable for an entire block insurance. If I had the proper tools im 100% confident I could do it without effecting anything
