Today was a good day

So, you guys know the Ice Cube song from way back in the day, right?

So I'm group-texting with some of my hometown buddies earlier, and we're talking about the upcoming UofL game. Discussions of pre-gaming come up, and what kind of performance we're going to deliver as far as drinking goes (I know, I know, it's kinda sad, but funny).

We couch it in terms of sports parlance, and I make an offhand comment about how I'm banged up from a rough week of work — including 18hrs yesterday — and might not be able to give the team my best today, which is a tough blow, since I'm an all-star. I told them I was upgraded by the team doc from "questionable" to "probable," and that I'd likely be heading to the bar in a bit to watch the game.

More with the silly sports parlance. "Coach" said they would limit my minutes today, and I said I'd give it my best in the time I had. Might even, to paraphrase Ice Cube from the song, "mess around and get a triple-double."

Well, those words were prophetic. I was playing Keno at the bar, and about halfway through the UofL game I look up and my numbers start dropping. And another. And another. And another. And one more for good measure.

Anyway, I hit 7-of-7 on the ticket for a nifty $2,000. Very, very nice.

Bought everybody at the bar a round, slipped the guy who ran my ticket some cash, and took good care of my bartender. So, in this case, I messed around and got a quadruple-double. :D

Shades of Willis Reed hobbling in at the last minute.

In keeping with the sports parlance theme, I've got 40 points, 22 rebounds, 14 assists, 9 blocks and 9 steals, with 5 minutes to play in the 4th. And if we need a last-second shot to pull through, just call me Jimmy Chitwood. I'll make it.

Run the swinging gate, just don't get caught watching the paint dry!

Didn't expect you to. You're stuck in 1986. But thanks!

Same boat. Happy for Jim, but no idea on the song. I was thinking "I probably couldn't pick Ice Cube out of a lineup"

I could pick him out of a lineup, but if it was his songs in a lineup......ZERO chance.
