Final from last night just saw this score had not heard anything on this one.

I posted a thread about it on Saturday night. You have to scroll down a bit. Spencer County came out flat. Let Christian Academy get out to something like a 12-0 lead and had to battle back the whole game. They got within four points with about 2:00 minutes left in the game. There was a lid on the basket and had about 10 unforced turnovers. Didn't play well at all, but still had a shot. They had a very physical game (almost a brawl) the night before against Eminence. Probably were a little tired, but Christian Academy has a very good team.

CAL is better than they've been in a long time. They started slow because they didn't have their football players, 3/4 of them play vital roles. I wouldn't be surprised if CAL surprises people in their district tourney.

A better idea of how good they will do should come when they play Eastern. I was just looking at the team but when I reviewed their schedule, they look to be consistent.

Perplexed?? I guess you haven't followed CAL this year? Third best record in the 7th region. Lost by 8 to Ballard. I would say they are top 5 in a VERY good region. I wouldn't say Spencer is "supposed to be a top 5 team" They should be the fifth best team in the region. Would you please name a team that should take their spot besides Oldham, South Oldham, Collins, and maybe Walton Verona (haven't seen them play)? I am perplexed by your perplexion (is that a word?)

CAL has had a soft schedule when you dig in. The lone wins in the 7th region are against Manual (way down this year from years past), KCD (might be their best victory), and Louisville Collegiate. The 7th is down this year in depth and they still have a losing record. They have improved from their first meeting losing to Ballard by 40 points to only 8 points in the LIT. If the perception is that CAL is a very good team, that is relative to what you consider a good team. I agree they may be better than the past, but I would not consider them to be a very good 6th or 7th region team. At best they are very middle of the pack in Jefferson County and the Spencer win could be considered their best win of the season if you scroll down and look at who they have played. Who else would get the nod?

They can be a matchup problem. They have good size up front and in the backcourt with Michael Woodward and Parker Jones. Milton Wright is an athletic freak who can be an X factor for them. But I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they beat Eastern in districts this year. The 7th is definitely down.

Yeah! What he said. I think you can look at losses and who they are against and learn quite a bit. But if you look at only who they have beat then you are missing something. It would make sense that if they lost by 40 to Ballard and then got some players back and lost by 8 then maybe they are quite a bit better.

I think you are discounting South Oldham and Collins when you say they have played a weak schedule. Both of CALS losses were within 10 to those teams.

I do not want to knock CAL, they are having a good season and I love the Parker Jones kid. But I would not call them a very good team because they played good teams close without any solid wins. Moral victories playing someone close is not enough for me. I want to see some solid victories to go along with it and I can't figure out who is their best win on the schedule because nothing jumps out. They have 4 good teams coming up in their next 5 games. They will kill Franklin, but if they win 3 out of those other 4 games I would upgrade them. Until then I can't give them the very good team moniker. I just have a higher bar that they have to get over.

There are 17 teams in the 7th and there about 7 teams that are not very good at all. That leaves 10 other teams and I would rank CAL to be about 7 or 8 behind Trinity, Ballard, Waggener, Eastern, Central, St. X, and then a toss up with CAL or Male. Last year Male was a very good team. Male has dropped this year and CAL is right there slightly above or on the same tier as Male.

You did not, but CardsRule did in the 2nd post on this topic which is what I was not agreeing with. I quoted your post in my initial response that may have left you the impression I was suggesting you did. Sorry and I agree it is a very good team for typical CAL with a great chance to get out of the district with Ballard, Eastern, & KCD. I think they have the chance to be a very good team if they catch fire and close out with a string of victories over some of the best teams on their schedule.
