January 27, 20179 yr We've always been intrigued by Plated, but the cost has kept us away....Isn't it something like $40-$50 for 3 meals a week? Yeah it's pretty expensive. But I think your first order you get a $30 discount so I figured I might as well try it. I know some people are turned off because you pay that money to have to cook it yourself but I enjoy cooking, I just don't enjoy the having to look up recipes and buying every little spice or whatever. I did a budget on how much I usually spend at the grocery every 2 weeks then I'm going to compare it to how much I spent using plated. I would imagine plated would be more expensive but depending on how much more it may be worth it to me.
January 27, 20179 yr I actually like grocery shopping with the wife. We wing it mostly. We have a list, but sometimes I'll create some concoction that I kinda decide while I'm there. Probably not the most efficient, but we are so close to the grocery, we go often. This.
January 27, 20179 yr I have a few friends who do it. None of them are cooks per se. So for them they actually save a bit of money versus what they normally spent eating out. I've had one of the meals that our friends made. It was quite good. For us...it doesn't make sense at all. But I can see how it does for some. We're sort of in the same boat as your friends. If I don't feel like cooking then we go out to eat. It's a pretty bad habit...
January 28, 20179 yr I do all the grocery shopping. No budget, buy things on sale and put in the 3 freezers and 2 side by sides. We eat well as I cook a big meal every day. We hardly ever eat out. When I see crab legs on sale I will buy several. During the holidays Prime Rib was available and I bought 6 to put in the freezer. I fixed one yesterday and it is soooo good. I raise a garden and will can and freeze in the summer. I try and make around 20 apple pies and put in the freezer. Now that I am retired I go to the grocery almost every day to look for bargains and things on my list. I keep a running list of things I need. If I don't write them down when I run out I will forget about them....:lol2:

I'm a pretty talented cook and am more than willing to work to earn my keep.

I have a standing invitation for one of @gold sunrise home cooked meals. I need to get my butt down there to enjoy one. I salivate every time she posts one of her meals!

Picked out the two best ones and then wait till they got more in. I use the closed door method to fix them. One of the easiest things to fix. I like mine better than any I have eaten in a restaurant. Another thing I can cut me off a piece as thick as I want.
January 28, 20179 yr We go randomly no set times. We are couponers, make a list based on how the store is set up so that its easy to just get and go. I had to condition my wife on how to shop at Kroger's, now I can let her do it on her own as she has bought in to my system. The bad part is when we go to Sam's, that store eats our wallets alive.
January 28, 20179 yr My wife and daughter do most of our family's grocery shopping. When I do shop in a bricks and mortar store, I almost always go to Wegman's, an east coast chain of high end grocery stores, which is also where my daughter works. I do most of my shopping through Amazon's Prime Now service. Groceries are delivered to my door within about 3 hours. I can even watch my order being transported around the Capital Beltway using an online map. I can tell whether the driver followed instructions to deliver to my patio or to the front door. It is pretty amazing technology. The selection is not great, but being able to order a pint of Haegan Dazs or Ben and Jerry's ice cream and have it delivered is pretty impressive. The minimum purchase for delivery is $30 or $35, but if you value your time (and gasoline), the cost is pretty reasonable.
