Cole VonHandorf Poised To Set Cov Cath Scoring Record

Featured Replies

If my count is correct, CVH is currently sitting at 1,946 points. He has averaged 16.8 points per game over his 18 games played this season.

Besides Cole, the other five leading scorers at Cov Cath are:

Nick Ruthsatz, 1980 points, 100 games, 2011-14

Andy Listerman, 1730 points, 128 games, 1991-94

Stephen Purdon, 1518 points, 112 games, 1996-00

Roger Tieman, 1456 points, 76 games, 1953-56

Jake Thelen, 1258 points, 76 games, 2008-11

With his scoring average, he's currently on pace to set the new Cov Cath scoring record during the game this Saturday against Ryle.

Helluva career and that record will not be broken for quite a while.

He'll go down as one of my favorites to watch. Not just his ability to score but his toughness and his "I ain't scared" approach.

One thing on that list of scoring leaders that impresses me is Roger Tieman's record, which stood for about 40 years until Andy Listerman broke it. Roger set his record in 76 games, and without the benefit of a 3-point line.

How many games has Cole played in?

At least at the beginning of the year, the KHSAA scoreboard site had credited Cole with 14 more points than what CCH lists on its 1,000 point page.

Congrats to CVH on a great career but I am sure he will put another State Championship over the Career Scoring Title.

I say he gets it before the end of January

Where would an old guy like Randy Noll fall on the list?

Noll finished with 1102 points, good for 16th on the list.

Thanks for the info. He was a classy young man.

Cole added 12 points to his total this on Wednesday night against Cooper, bringing him within 22 of tying the current record. That being the case, it looks most likely that he is going to be setting the new record on Monday against Campbell County.

22 short per the KHSAA site. 36 short if you use the total on the CCH 1,000 point page. Per the CCH site, he was at 1630 through last year. He has scored 314 so far this year, per KHSAA site - 1944, or 36 short.

Wonder which one is correct?

Very good point you make there...

Haha - going after coach's son's record - coincidence or suspicious discrepancy?

Just kidding. On the doorstep of a really cool accomplishment.
