December 20, 20169 yr I'll also add that I'm someone with pre-existing conditions that is in complete and total support of getting rid of the ACA as soon as possible. Good for you that you can manage it. Many cannot come up with the astronomical things some pre-existing conditions bring with it. My aunt would be dead without it. Which brings another challenge. Do the grandfather everyone in or cut people with pre-existing loose back to the beginning? If they do cut them loose, people will die that have been given a second chance, if they don't we are back to the cost of the millions being covered. The GOP don't think it is a challenge and it isn't for them, but boy will it be for millions.
December 20, 20169 yr Want me to tell you how to keep the pre-existing? Put some controls on the cost of prescription meds. That, in turn, will make for an affordable rider (or inclusion) in most policies. Reduce limits on how long a drug can remain on the market without a generic alternative. Oh, there are a hundred more ways, but let some of the drug companies start to feel some regulation and we can have some relief on the insurance side. No give with the drug companies, only take. They've gone without much oversight for decades because of their enormous lobby. I'd start there. Yep and hospitals and other providers. Ain't happening because under this administration regs will go out the window, what little they have in these industries.
December 20, 20169 yr Author Yes. Do you think they'll ignore the guy they just elected if he's made it known that he won't get rid of it until there's something else in place? The President-Elect has not said he will keep the entire ACA until he finds a suitable replacement. Republicans have made it clear it's a Day 1 item for them. Should Congress decide to wait until a full replacement is available before touching the current ACA they all , including the President-Elect, are going to have to face supporters who screamed for repeal. There has been no one on record saying they're willing to wait for an entire replacement before touching ACA.

No time table and no parameters on what that means

They've said that the plan to repeal it day 1 with an effective date of roughly 3 years from then....

December 20, 20169 yr Author They've said that the plan to repeal it day 1 with an effective date of roughly 3 years from then.... Repeal and delay is a nightmare to insurance markets. Companies will drop out especially if the plan is to do something like I've already mentioned - keep pre-existing/allowing children to stay on til 26 BUT getting rid of mandates for enrollment. It doesn't make sense financially. The ACA as constructed now has already proven that. If you back off of mandatory enrollment AND significant penalties if you choose not to enroll the math doesn't work. The Trump plan to keep those items but eliminate the others is a problem. Telling the insurance companies a change is coming BUT we don't know what it is will cause rates to skyrocket even more or to lose coverage altogether. It sounds good on the trial until the details are looked into.

December 20, 20169 yr Author And all of that is fine by me as long as we're getting the government out of the insurance industry. The govt was already in the insurance biz and will always be in the insurance biz.
December 20, 20169 yr The govt was already in the insurance biz and will always be in the insurance biz. Not if they privatize it....
December 20, 20169 yr Yep and hospitals and other providers. Ain't happening because under this administration regs will go out the window, what little they have in these industries. With all due respect, I think you are totally wrong. I don't think reform of any of this bill can happen without it. What makes you think regulations will go out the window under this administration? Is there something I've missed? I admittedly don't spend much time in this forum (on purpose)
December 20, 20169 yr Good luck...Well, if you've got the balls, start there. We'll see if he has any.
December 20, 20169 yr Not if they privatize it.... You will never fully privatize it. You can't let people die and the government will pay not private companies. One of those things that sounds good but isn't practical to implement. The government will always be in the health biz, food biz, education biz, transportation biz, etc. in some way.

I won't get into it, as this isn't really the thread for it, but I'll leave it at this. I am very much a believer in Darwinism and the whole Survival of the Fittest mantra.

I admittedly don't spend much time in this forum (on purpose) What does the GOP want to regulate besides someone's sexual orientation, someone's body and someone's etc.? Both parties cater to the pharms, no doubt so they are untouchable in any situation.
