Has Anyone Tried the Doggie DNA Kits?

Featured Replies

I have a rescue dos that I got last Christmas. He is about 1 1/2 year old puppy. 55 pounds the day I bought him and the same now. He is a mixed Boxer they say, but I am not sure. It really doesn't matter, I love the little(big) guy anyway.

I have been reading about doing the Doggie DNA and seeing what he might be a mix of. It seems to cost about 80-100 bucks which I will do, if it is reliable. The reviews are all over the place.

Has anyone done them or know anyone that has and their reliability?

No , I'm sorry I haven't , but maybe write to Maury Povich. He seems to be helpful in these matters. :)

Nah, don't care who the father is as much as the breed. The father is probably mixed also. Thanks a bunch, though, you are so helpful.

Where does one buy these kits at?

Pet stores, on line, probably other places. They really do have them and I have talked to two people that have done it, although I don't know them that well. Just talking to them at the Dog Park while letting the big boy get the vigor out.

They both said it gave them a good idea, but they were not sure of the reliability. I am just curious, that's all. Might be fun to know. These things interest me. I don't understand that universe stuff you guys talk about. Dogs are barely my speed.

Interesting. I haven't heard of them. My sister is the dog lover. I'll have to ask her what she knows. Thanks for sharing.

One of the people I talked to had so many breed mixes that they did not think there was a dominant one. I am continuing to train Scotch and we are to the the point in the process where knowing the breed might help with the one issue he has left to break.

I had my dog's DNA tested about 6 weeks ago. Seemed to get reasonable and useful results.

She he is a golden sheltamoskie...golden retriever, sheltie, American Eskimo dog and Siberian huskie. My girl does love the snow!

While I don't have a pooch, I did I try one of these doggie DNA kits thingys on myself today. Turns out I'm just what you might think -- a dirty old liberal bastard.

Now that's funny.

My brother and sister-in-law had a DNA test done on their dog to prove that he's not from one of the dog breeds on "the list" in order to lower their homeowner's insurance. I believe they were suspect that he had Akita or German Shepherd in him, but he turned out to be a Lab/Golden/Greater Swiss Mountain Dog mix, just like the seller told them.

Interesting. My homeowners insurance has never asked me if I have a dog. :idunno:

Yeah that seems odd to me....
