Now I've installed NBC, CBS, ABC, HGTV and PBS. Who knew $30 would change my life so completely?!

I got rid of directv a few months ago and went with PlayStation Vue. I do the $29 package and get all the espn's, fox sports channels, sec networks and big ten channels. I also get my over the air signals without a problem. I have been pretty happy other than you just can't mindlessly flip through channels. You almost have to pick a show. You can change channels but not as easy to just press up or down on your remote. I have it set up on 2 different hdtv's by a Roku

 

I am thinking of getting an unlocked firestick with Kodi to get the free movies.

So do you have to have a Playstation for it?

 

Do you get the local channels live, or are they on demand? Do you need an antenna?

 

I have Samsung Smart TVs. Will it work on those?

No.

 

You get some live depending on zip code. The rest are on demand. I use an over air antenna to get the ones that aren't live.

Yes. But it says some shows are restricted and you can't record. I haven't had that issue though.

Let's say it doesn't work on the Samsungs....It works with Roku though, so I could just buy a couple of those and run it through them, right? Aren't they only like $40-$50?

I live in Nky. For my local channels, I get, I think channel 12, live. The rest are on demand. I use an antenna to pick all my local stations up though. I have an indoor flat antenna that works great.

 

I do not have a PlayStation. I stream it thru 2 separate roku's on my 2 Tv's. My sister gave me her old one so you could just buy them used but new are about $50. Or a firestick would work.

 

If your Tv's are smart, I don't think you would even need the roku's.

 

It does have a dvr function. I am not sure how much you can store at a time. It also has an app where you can watch tv on your phone. Comes in handy to watch reds games when I'm stuck somewhere. I also have a lightning/hdmi converter I use when I'm camping at horse shows to project from my phone to my tv in my camper.

 

I tried sling first but liked PlayStation better. There are no contracts with either.

I will add, I have 30 Internet Fioptics. I work from home 3 days a week and have an 18 year old that spends 97% of her time on the Internet in some capacity. I have never had trouble with buffering.

Roku's aren't too pricey and they're a solid product. I liked mine much better than Amazon's Fire stick. Also, if you end up getting a streaming device I would recommend getting the box instead of the sticks. They're noticeably faster and it makes a difference if you're using it for streaming TV.

I have the indoor antenna and have one on each tv. Sam's had a deal that had a 2 pack at the time. I think you can get a splitter and only use one but it was just easier to have antenna's instead of running wire. And they're hidden pretty well so I don't worry about it. I also have the Roku boxes and not the stick.

I have a 250 Gb data cap on my internet per month, so that's one of the primary reasons I haven't cut the cord. But I still may soon enough.

Almsot time to call and complain so I can get HBO free and watch Hard Knocks.

And I just got an email from PlayStation that my bill is going up by $10 a month. They did give me a 3 month warning so I can find something cheaper. Ugh.

Our cord is officially cut at midnight. We have had DTv for years but we purchased a few Roku's and will be saving about $100 per month. Now we are searching Prime Day for an additional TV. We had a 32" tube TV in the bedroom, no lie it has to weigh 2 bills and is a nightmare to move. Within minutes of posting it for free on facebook we had three takers. The first guy didn't want to carry it down 37 steps but the second guy was game. I honestly didn't want to help in the process, I've moved it in, out then back in again after our condo fire. I always said when I sold the condo, the TV was included, that is how much I dread moving the beast. Well guess who was about 50% involved in moving it tonight, me, that's who. The two cats who showed up had no clue what they were in for, hopefully they were successful moving it from their truck to their living room.

Come September, once our DirecTV contract is up, we'll be cutting the cord completely. Gonna get a couple antennas to grab local channels and roll with that for a while.

 

Probably end up getting a streaming service once college basketball season starts back up, but still major $ savings.

I'm slowly extricating myself. My contract is up in November. I reduced my package to local channels and children's progamming and am back to under 100/mo for both Internet and Direct TV. I have my chrome cast now and am casting Netflix on the regular, and exploring casting network TV. I'm likely to get an antenna here soon and then just call and cancel because it's only 20/mo early termination. I'm now shopping Internet, but likely to just stick with ATY till Google Fiber makes it to my hood.
